My weight always fluctuates up or down from day to day, and so if I check it every day I set myself up for a bad day at least part of the time, whereas if I weigh myself once a month, I see a loss because that's the way things are going.

My Mom used to say: just as long as it is headed in the right direction....Congratulations, I know how hard it is... also read that for every pound you lose, it takes 4 lbs. of pressure off your knees....

Thumbs up

I was at 160 lbs for about 10 years until I retired 2 1/2 years ago and then my weight went up to 179 in the first year or so. My knees started giving me major problems and when I went to my Dr. he had X-rays taken and I went to a bone Dr. who said there was a lot of calcium buildup and if it bothered me too much a Cortozone shot could help. At that time I was eating without paying attention to carbs but cut down on how much I ate and it took about a year to get down to 167 at my last Dr. appointment two weeks ago. A benefit was that I am now not noticing any problems with my knees so maybe it really helps. Since at my last Dr. appointment my a1c was 7.4 I decided to see what I could do to control my bs. I found the information on the lchf diet and started folloeing that for the last 2 weeks and I really have not been concentrating on loosing weight right now, more concerned about bs, I weighed 164 today. So that is another plus. I would like to eventually get down to 150-155 lbs because I believe that would be close to my ideal weight ( 71 year old Male 5' 7" ) The fact that my knees are not bothering me will let me start a walking program which I believe will help a lot as I have not been active at all since I retired.
Hope this helps,
Wally

So . . . who out there is trying to lose weight? Anyone? I'm two weeks into what I reckon isn't "dieting," but a "lifestyle change," and I'd love to find others who are in my shoes so we can support each other.

I'm a 56-year-old woman, 5'10", and weighed 285 two weeks ago. I've lost about 5 pounds, but I'm not paying a lot of attention to the number right now. I figure if I eat right (check), count my calories (check), and exercise (haven't started that yet, but I will), the number will fall. Plus, I've got enough numbers in my life right now: fasting bg, 2-hour bg, before-bed bg, number of servings of protein, carbs, milk, fruits, veggies, fat, total calories, etc. etc.

If someone else is out there trying to lose weight and wants a diet buddy (or buddies), let's share our journey and cheer each other on!
I'm in. I'm new to this wonderful and helpful site and starting the LCHF lifestyle today. After retiring, I need to lose the 50 lbs I have gained and which probably put me in the Type II category (still pre-diabetic). Cheering everyone on and looking forward to a healthy future!

You think 5 lbs doesn't sound like a lot but they make these anatomical models that show you what a 5 pound globule of fat looks like so that you can feel how much that is...You are on your way...Best wishes from another recent retiree

I have lost 2kg (4 pounds) since starting the renovation work on my bedroom. It's been months since I've been able to break below 85kg but today I stand at 84.2!

I swear your body and mine are conspiring together against us!

My body: Yo Mary's body! Wanna see something funny?

Mary's body: What are ya going to do?

My Body: Watch this! When Mary ain't lookin', I'm gonna add a pound or two to her weight. Only you and I will know... hehehe!

Mary's body: Haha! That's way cool! Let me try that on Shawn's body! Hey! He weighs in Kgs! It's gonna be double as funny!
