Default Truvia, powdered Splenda

Richard K. Bernstein sated that the only artificial sweetener that doesn't raise BG is liquid Splenda like that found in DaVinci and other Sugar Free syrups. After a half dozen tests on myself I found that powdered Splenda and crystalline Truvia had no effect on my BG at fifteen, thirty, forty-five and sixty minutes after consumption of three tablespoons of each dissolved in water. Powdered Stevia in the Raw elevated my BG from 90 to 110 (15 minutes), 112 (30 minutes), 95 (45 minutes) and 88 after 60 minutes.

Hi Bob, welcome back to the forum.

I use stevia and Truvia, and also liquid sucrulose without any impact on my BG.

Does anyone have info about Swerve? They are promoting it for diabetics. I don't use artificial sweetener much but thought I would try it.

Two tablespoons?! How could you possibly choke that down? Also, it sounds like both tests were of commercial "mixes" where they add in other things like maltodextrin or sugar alcohols. So, 1) I don't think you really tested the compounds in question and 2) the results re pretty much margin-of-error and not very conclusive and 3) you tested an outrageous quantity that might takes weeks to consume while using it reasonably. As I recall, Stevia in the Raw is like 95% not-stevia, although I can't recall what they mixed it with.

If it was 2 tablespoons of pure stevia, that would be approximately 1000 servings, so divide your total spike by that and expect a 0.022 point rise from a normal serving. It wouldn't make my list of concerns.
