That is why I am trying to be flexible with my shake-for-dinner routine, but, as an insulin user, I can be.

Almost hate to admit this but since I have cut back on my protein for lunch and some what for breakfast I have lost close to 20lbs since Jan. I did notice when I went really low on the calories I would actually gain weight, odd I know, something to do with overall metabolism I think. Its hard to find that sweet spot, where by you have reduced calories, protein, but your metabolism holds steady or increases.

I just want someone to give me the effing formula to follow that is guaranteed to work and I'll follow it! Oh right, that's what we all want, that's what nobody gets. I'm a bit at my wits' end, for the first time since Dx nearly 3 years ago. Oh well, I'll get through it, just like all of you have.

Abra, I think the "formula" for each of us changes over time. If you need the metformin, then by all means, use this tool to your advantage. It may be that your insulin production has diminished somewhat and the met will make what you do produce more effective.

Default Tapering off the fast

Yesterday went well, although from a BG and weight standpoint, it wasn't all that successful. What was successful, however, was in stopping the cravings for "something - anything - just to eat!!!" scenario I've been struggling with for so long.

Today I'll add in a little more protein and some veggies. I had some fat (coconut Manna + coconut oil "fudge") first thing after getting up and one slice of bacon an hour after that with my coconut cream flavored hot drink.

I woke up really early - 3:00 am, managed to doze until 4:15, but got up then - BG was 86, then 2hr later 107 - not bad (i'll need to test again at 3hrpp because I have found my highs come at 2 hrs and then go back down at 3 hrs.

My immediate plan is to keep the protein low and stay with the very high fats, but eat a better range of foods including veggies.

Some comments I've read on blogs is that after the fast, they are more content with the bare bones LCHF and not tempted to indulge in the goodies - hoping this works for me as well.
