Default The Struggle to Eat Right

Hi everyone. I've been struggling hard on everything in life. Depression has had the upper hand and the high heat in the area is an accomplice.

With that said, I'm grateful for the things I've been able to hang onto. Of the 20 pounds I lost at the beginning of my intermittent fasting journey, I've kept off 15. I've done that with a daily fasting of a minimum of 12 hours. I'm still sleeping during the night because of the minimum fasting I still do. This is very good for me.

My blood glucose is back into the 165 to 290 range but I'm staying out of the 300 to 400 range I was in before I started fasting. I'm struggling to even take my blood glucose reading let alone take my insulin each night.

Two big problems I have is eating things I shouldn't and not being able to stop eating at times. On the basis of these two problems, I've joined Overeater's Anonymous. There are no meetings near me so I joined two Facebook groups. I bought the Kindle edition of their book and I've started reading it. I also read their stories online. They use the 12 steps of AA, which I have done in AA, but I will do them again in OA.

They suggest a program of abstinence which is up to the individual of what they can commit to. Many of them use the 3/0/7 method which is 3 meals a day, 0 snacks, 7 days a week.

At present my abstinence commitment is fast 15 hours a day, do not eat what will trigger a binge, and eat to my meter. I'm at the beginning of developing a list of trigger foods. I'm keeping a diary of what is happening when I want to binge. I find just writing about it identifies what's bugging me and that helps a lot.

In the meantime, I'm buying more of what I can eat so I can maintain having them on hand. This is helping a lot.

I have been going to food giveaways which I considered stopping but I drive others in my van who do not have transportation. I have started giving what I shouldn't eat to them and others at church and that helps me.

It's still in the 90 F range where I live but next week will be in the 80's and that will be very helpful for me. When it gets cooler than that I'm looking forward to doing some 24 hour fasts to help continue the weight loss.

Sorry I haven't been here much but with depression it's hard to think of anything to say or even say it coherently. Aside from the eating problem I need to succeed at taking my BG readings.

chargette, no need to apologize for not posting here! You are taking care of *you* and, right now, that comes with enough of its own challenges.

We are here for you to help provide support and information so please let us know what you need (besides cooler weather, which I’m not sure we can influence &#x1f642.
