30 Days on Keto & Gained a Pound

I started on the Keto WOE the end of July. I haven't used any ketone strips. But that may be my next step.

As the title says after 30 days I gained a pound. Boy, am I frustrated.
I'm on the Keto forum and I think they've given up on me.
So I'm thinking maybe my non-weight loss is due to Type 2.

Last summer I didn't know about Keto and lost only 10 lbs. in 3 months. Back then I didn't think much about it but I did think, Wow, only 10 lbs. Was eating mostly salads worth it?

I use Trulicity (.75mg) once a week and 1500mg of Metformin per day.
I just had blood work done last week and I'll have 1 and a half months of eating Keto in my blood. I haven't received the results yet.

Now, my question- Why aren't I losing weight? And what can I do to lose weight?

The Keto forum says, "Hang in there, your body is fighting it."

I don't know how much the Keto forum people know about Type 2 diabetes, and although they are great people, I think you guys will have the answer.
I will do whatever it takes to get off of my medication for diabetes. Being healthy is my goal.
Thank you so much for reading this and your help.

LCHF and keto cannot suspend the law of dieting to lose weight. If you want to lose weight, the calories you burn must be more than the calories you take in. That’s the reduction in calories the doctor is talking about.

The good things about LCHF and keto are that 1) for people whose bodies have trouble managing carbs, there are fewer carbs to have to manage; and 2) eating fewer carbs can make it easier to stay on a reduced-calorie eating plan because fat satisfies hunger better than carbs and doesn’t cause the roller coaster of sugar/insulin levels that the standard way of eating does.

The doctor also is correct in that different kinds of bread have different caloric and carb values because of their ingredients and how airy they are.

Of course, here we suggest that you’re better off without any bread at all. 🙂

So you're saying start counting calories?
Yes. I couldn't find a link to such a calculator on this forum but here is a link to a calculator recommended on another keto on-line forum I follow: keto diet calculator . Use the Activity Level of Sedentary unless your day job requires you to work outside (construction, dock worker, etc.) or you are fairly seriously athletic.

Use the calorie/macro levels the calculator provides and start measuring! There are Web sites to help you determine what's in the food you're eating; there also are smartphone apps and carry-around booklets. It will take measuring (at least until you can eyeball serving sizes accurately, etc.) and tracking.

It can be a fuss at first but it gets easier as you can ID portion sizes; some of us also help ourselves by standardizing our diets (I eat pretty much the same breakfast every morning; it's just easier and I'm not tired of it yet). We certainly can help you with specific questions and recommendations on how to do this since many of us have done it (or are still doing it). But most of us can tell you that guesswork usually won't get you where you want to go with this.

Thanks to you both! You've set my mind more at ease. I worried all through the night if what the NP told me is right and I was praying someone would answer me here. And you did!
The calculator is a good one!
Blood Sugar 101 is good and I'm going to read more of it.
Again....thanks for coming through.
