Default Always Hungry Lately

Strange thing has been going on this week. My eating habits have not changed - no weight gain or weight loss - everything is where it should be but for the past week I feel like I'm starving and that my BGs are running low.

So I of course will test myself only to discover my BGs are where they should be and I'm not experiencing the initial stages of a hypo. It's like my appetite has greatly expanded.

The only thing I can figure - with such a hot summer I never really felt like eating much and now that the temperatures have dropped it has triggered my appetite which I'm confusing with low BGs.

Anyway - I hope this passes because I don't like being hungry all the time or feeling like my BGs are low.

Anyone had a similar experience and what did you do about it?

I think cooler weather has a lot to do with it. And shorter days. Still can't beat the circadian rhythm...

I have had times like that and my solution is eat more fat! Since you body, for whatever reason is craving more food, fat is our normal solution to cravings...

Works for me every time....

I have not had this happen but may be worth looking at the hormones responsible for appetite and hunger. Has your physical activity increased?

Ghrelin, a hormone which increases appetite, is released primarily in the stomach and is thought to signal hunger to the brain. You also have a hormone called leptin which is an appetite suppressor. Below youll find more info on Ghrelin as well as testing for its level thru a blood test.

I'm also constantly hungry - been that way for 8 years. No weight gain. My doctor & CDE says, "Your cells are starving." I guess that's part of diabetes. Some diabetics I've asked don't experience that.

'Always Hungry' could easily describe my experience over the past several decades. Yet, I've been able to really put a stop to it since January 2018.

This year I have been doing alot fasting fasting or eating Low carb/keto. It controls my hunger better than anything else I've ever tried. I'm finally at a point where I feel like I can make food choices that are healthy rather than based on cravings and addictions.

Now that I'm experiencing hours and sometimes days without hunger, I am also more aware of when I'm suffering from it. There is no doubt in my mind that less carbs = less hunger.

Best of wishes to you. I hope you find a solution too.

The change in seasons every year always gets me "starving" all the time.
Thats when I know the weather really IS changing, when I start "starving" all the time.

Everybody in my family had some ailment that had to do with the weather patterns. LOL

Looks like my hunger has been resolved although I suspect my 1 week vacation was responsible - went to a warmer climate where I did lots of exercise and didn't eat much. My BG levels were impressive! Then I got back to the cooler weather and saw a large bag of salt and vinegar chips on the counter. Had three handfuls where my BGs sharply rose to around 375.

You know ... I can be such an idiot at times. I know better but it had been quite a long time since having salt and vinegar chips. I had to increase my insulin consumption by about 75% just to get down to normal.

All good comments for sure...

But I say again, "fat is our normal (many on this website) solution to cravings..."

Since 2015, when I joined in LCHF, one of the most important things I learned about LCHF is that MANY people have been conditioned, over the years, to avoid 'FATS'! We know now, with the possible exception of 'Trans fats', it is generally excepted, in the medical community that eating fats has no impact on Cholesterol or weight gain and in fact are a good source of energy...That's why we call it Low Carb High Fat, as we cannot do one without the other or you will be craving, craving, craving... which leads to caving, caving, caving....

Frequently, over the years on this website, we find that someone who is craving is staying with low fats and yet going low carb, which means you are starving yourselves. How much fat is enough is an individual thing, but for me, if I crave I solve it with more fat intake....

Of course I acknowledge that some people have medical conditions that forces them to avoid fats, and how they must struggle. But baring that, if you are LC you should be HF!

Of course, that's just me...

I think your post rings true for me. I'm on a similar liquid diet as my wife and I'm always hungry.

Now that you mentioned it, I am low fat and low carb. Yet, my carbs are higher than keto or intermitent fasting would do for me. That sounds like a perfect recipe for the cravings that I'm getting.
