The current practice of diagnosing and prescribing medication based almost solely on LDL level is being discredited, very slowly. Turns out that, like so many bodily functions, health cannot be reduced to just one number. LDL level is useful but it is only one aspect of cardiac health, and practicing medicine without considering HDL and triglyceride levels or even cholesterol pattern size consigns many people to medications that they probably don't need to be taking.

I am so lucky that my gen doc was a heart specialist. I have a horrible "white coat" syndrome when taking my BP at the office. It was scary high. He said get a good Omron meter and test many times during the day under different circumstances.

With minor changes my BP was normal for the next decade but did need small dose BP pills after some very serious family and work stresses hit me.

Never take meds based just on one or even several tests. Look at the whole picture.
