I am 63 years old and am a type 2 diabetic since 2013. I have recently gotten serious about losing weight before I lose a foot or my eyesight.
Each day I take:
60mg of Cymbalta,
1 baby aspirin,
1 vitamin D,
1 magnesium (at bedtime)
1500 mg of Metformin, and
.75 mg of Trulicity once a week.
Last summer I was on the keto diet and I kept my carbs below 25 per day and in two months I gained 1 lb.
I began the keto diet again on February 19th of this year and today is April 16th and I have lost zero pounds. A month ago I stopped drinking all diet pop so now I only drink water.
I have rashes under my arm pits that come and go. Doc doesn't know what's causing it.
Although I have lost 0 pounds nor have I lost any inches I feel 80% better than I did. So I know this WOE is the way to go.
People that I talk to or people on forums tell me that my metabolism has just pretty much stopped. I read on the internet that there's no way that you can jump-start your metabolism. I've also read other things of how you can jump start it.
People tell me I'm not eating enough. So I eat more and I still don't lose weight. And then I practically starve myself and I still don't lose weight. My doctor doesn't know why I'm not losing weight on this diet. I don't think there's a diet around that I would lose weight on. So I don't think it's the way of eating that is causing the problem.
The only reason that I'm staying on this WOE is because I feel much, much better then when I'm eating junk.
Should I go to some kind of a specialist? Why am I not losing? Why has my metabolism slowed down so much? Is there anyone else out there that hasn't lost weight for a couple of months or 3 months or 4 months?

You need to see a dietitian that knows keto, that would really help you understand your need of calories and then your macros,
The thing is, you need to cut all sugar of any kind/type, your carbs needs to be around 5 to 10% and they need to be from good source of green vegetables mostly, no fruits, your fat intake needs to be around 70% of your macros and your protein around 20-25% , all good source intake
Need to do little exercise
May do along intermittent fasting
Just do 3 meals a day
Use an app to track macros helps a lot
We use carb manager

In my opinion, feeling better because you eat this way should be reason enough to stay with it, even if you're not losing weight.
I know my weight loss with keto slowed way down over the last several months but I will admit freely that I've taken my eye off the ball many times. I'm not as rigid as I was about measuring everything I eat because (I think :glasses:) I've gotten pretty good at eyeballing portions. I also know that winter did a number on my activity level so lately I've been pushing myself to be more active. I'm still losing weight, but not at the same rate.
Have you calculated your goals for carbs/protein/fat recently and are you measuring what you're eating to see if they match up? Have you been as active as you have been? Are any of the medications you're taking new to you -- and, if so, is weight gain or slower metabolism a side effect?
I've heard about people who took a break from keto for a few days to kind of disrupt their body. Not sure I can recommend that to a diabetic, but people do it. Others have tried intermittent fasting or eating one meal a day to accomplish the same goal. You can do a Web search for more info on those techniques.
If you're still concerned, you could ask your general practitioner for a thyroid test to see if that's an issue. Others here may suggest other tests which can indicate a slowing metabolism.
I can empathize that you're working at this and seem to be coming up empty-handed. I hope we can come up with some good suggestions for you.
Just feeling better should make you apt to be more active. Added activity, if not prompting weight loss should prompt inches loss. If not, then we can always think it should. Hang in there, it will happen.
I have another perspective! I know nothing about the Keto diet. I have only worked on doing the low carb high fat model as outlined in blood sugar 101. When I started on this way of eating, I worked hard at finding a robust menu offering me many options for snacks and even some sweets (w/artificial sweeteners). I never analyzed my protein intake, fat intake, etc. I only focused on my carb intake....I considered everything else irrelevant!
I began in May of 2015. I was type 2 with an increasing A1c was up to 7.9! I had tried and failed eating low carb's like the South Beach, the hunger and cravings eventually broke me down. When I began I weighed in at 320, at 6'1"! My blood pressure was borderline high, my cholesterol was borderline to a bit high also.
I found eating low carb high fat fairly easy, as if I got hungry I ate some pecans, or walnuts, or pork rinds....so I never was hungry and never had cravings for carbs.....I knew then "I can do this"! I remember that I lost like 17lbs in about 3 weeks. It was mostly water as I found out when I started getting light headed. People on this website told me to eat more salt and drink more water...that did the trick and my weight continued to drop. I was not working out or changing my activity level, just focused on eating right....
By the end of the year I had lost 70lbs. My A1c was 5.8, my Blood Pressure was like 125/70, and my cholesterol on target where my doctor wanted me to be. I went from a 52" waste to a 46"! My wife who is not diabetic did this all with me, as she too need to drop weight. She too dropped 20% of her weight, since she was not as overweight as I was, she is now the same as when we got married in 1970....
I have stayed at this weight and all my vitals are still great. So I am not sure if there is a difference between Keto and LCHF, but I can attest to the fact that LCHF has worked for me....it actually saved my Life!

I did the macros thing. I used Carb Manager and a few others. Too much protein, you may not lose weight, too much dairy (cream) you may not lose weight. I have cut out everything I know of and still no weight loss.
The other day I ate 3 ribs and a salad. That was it for the whole day because I wasn't hungry. If I'm hungry I eat fat. I have no sugar cravings anymore.
Two years ago before I'd heard of Keto I went on a diet and practically starved myself. I ate a salad and maybe a meat for the whole day. In 3 months I'd only lost 10 lbs. And it kinda crossed my mind ...why aren't I losing more weight than this? But I let that thought pass.
And to think...I starved myself for 3 months just to lose a measly 10 llbs. LOL!
When I'm on Keto my BG doesn't spike.
Well, short of some illness or such that's slowing down your metabolism, losing weight is calories in/calories out. Keto isn't magic in that regard; it's just that lots of people find it easier to stick with it as a WoE because they're not on the blood-glucose rollercoaster (that's also a plus for us diabetics).
So maybe you need some sort of lab workup for your metabolism.
The other question is how active you are. If you're not eating much but you're also not active, you won't be burning the calories that turn into pounds lost. Maybe the best person to see is a dietitian who promotes eating keto; maybe he/she can identify something that would make this work.
I've had lab work done and I've asked her if she checked my thyroid yes and it's fine. I don't exercise much. But I'm starting to because I'll have to be mowing the grass and working out side now that the weather is getting nicer. Is that how I would get my metabolism going is by exercising? Thank you everyone for all of your opinions and your thoughts and your kindness because it does help. In fact, whatever you have to give me helps me.
