No such thing as low carb bread?

I miss lots of things on LCHF diet, but brown bread is at the top of the list. Love PB toast and low sodium deli meat sandwiches.

Searched the web for low carb bread and they are expensive, often $13 a loaf, but worse, user reviews claim they are horrible.

Do I permanently give up brn bread or is there a good low carb product?

I don't think there's a really good product on the market. BUT there are some really good LC bread recipes all over the internet - if you're willing to make your own.

In my Pinterest board (see link below) I have pinned several bread recipes - the keto rolls have have no eggs but use psyllium to hold it together. Because of the psyllium it is brown in color. Perhaps not the same thing as brown bread, but it has good mouth texture and makes good sandwiches.

Many thanks. Since noting your link a while ago, I've been on that site with mixed results, but will keep looking.

I was astounded how many "no egg" recipes have eggs. Found one bread recipe that sounds great but it has 14 gms carbs per slice!

My store bought bread is lower than that.

It's the best site I've seen [many thanks] and will keep looking.

Well, I can have "some" egg, and if a recipe has one or two eggs, i'll reduce it to 1 egg. If it has 6-8 servings, that's very little egg at one time.

I do a lot of tweaking of recipes. What I have on my board are things that strike me as interesting and can be adjusted to my limitations - hopefully. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

On Pinterest, I often search for "LCHF recipes" or "keto recipes". Using "keto" turns up recipes with fewer carbs. Searching for "Whole30" turns up recipes without dairy but takes weeding through for true low-carb.

The search engine on Pinterest isn't very specific and many "other" ingredient pins will show up as well. One thing I like to do is visit others' low-carb boards and sift through them, as well.

My doc says no egg yolks foe me but whites are okay. I have not yet used just whites for those eggy recipes, but will try that.

Yeah, the search thing is not that good, but it's free so I have no complaints.

I have found that using a low carb tortillas (Carb Balance) 4g or 6g carbs depending on the size, does well for a sandwich. I just put meat, cheese, mayo on the tortilla, roll it up, and warm it up in the microwave if I want the cheese melted.

Curious about the reason the doc says to avoid the egg yolks?

Serious gallstones and anemia. [heh, as if diabetes worries are not enough]

Also been to ER three times in the last 18 months over UTI, sepsis and pneumonia.

I was reasonably healthy until 78 then somebody threw a switch...!!!

Once, I wanted to make banana bread with wheat flour but one loaf would have totaled $17 so I said, "Hell no!"
