Default And still those voices are calling from far away.....

Went to a 4th of July cookout last evening - I did pretty well avoiding the carby stuff and sticking to what I could eat, until.... the hostess brought out still warm from the oven homemade peach cobbler Resistance is futile! I had a little bit - didn't seem to have wrecked my readings, but today I hear the whisperings of the carbs saying "eat me, eat me, eat me....."

Sure just take one little bite of something sweet to activate the cravings - and I don't even have much of a sweet tooth usually!

Welcome to the Hotel Carbifornia?

I know what you mean about the cravings. They're the WORST.

There is something about fruit, especially in the summer. When we were in Spain, a Spanish couple my daughter gives English Lessons to, invited us to their home. They were so happy to have us there and made us a luscious Apple torte with a Caramel Glaze. I didn't have the will or heart to refuse and I really didn't want to explain the whole diabetes thing, since their English is limited. So I ate it and boy, did I enjoy every bite. I was surprised when we got back to the hotel about 3 hours later I was 115. I think sometimes we beat ourselves up about a treat here or there, we shouldn't.

I suggest that if they were older generation Spanish, the torte was probably made with honest fruit and sugar rather than what you now find in supermarkets.

I honestly believe that our bodies can cope with reasonable quantities of real food that we "evolved" (i.e. we've used for hundreds of years) with. What really screws us up is the chemical rubbish that has appeared in the last quarter century

captain1 - listen to me. Do NOT go into the light. Stop where you are. Turn away from it. Don't even look at it.

My beloved purple hull peas are doing that to me...so, just beat them on the head and be careful! I'm making them wait for every other day...
