GABA -- thanks!

I think I am mostly sleeping better, using 750 mg of GABA at bedtime, along with magnesium and melatonin 6 mg ...

EXCEPT, my husband is a night owl and is up until all hours (2 or 3, often!).

So ... I have started HIM on the same regimen of 3 supplements. After 3 days, he is convinced it helps him!

I started doing 750 GABA and 10 melatonin at night to help sleep. It does some but not always. Recently added calcium/magnesium and that seems to do better. Is the calcium needed and is there tests for deficiency of both/either. What is your recommendation on magnesium, I'm starting to look into vitamins and supplements without fillers, magnesium stearate bad.

I added another 750 GABA in the morning about two months ago. After reading Marty's comment on it building up and resulting in HGH release causing higher BG, I'm going back to just 1 at night to see if that might be it.

Magnesium citrate absorbs best. We currently have Mag oxide and it seems to work well enough.

I have higher BG if I take > 750 per night.

I am currently taking 1 (750) cap three times a day. Not seeing any rise but a lowering effect on my BG level right now. There is a fine line for me as to when I am taking to much and will see a rise in my BG level. This morning FBG was 77, I'm still good.

I'll give cut back to 1/day a week, will look at going to 3X a day. Was looking at increasing when FBG started up after vacation until I read about building up over time.

Thinking I will increase fish oil capsules to 3X a day too.

Heard an infomercial about calcium / magnesium supplement touted as being heart healthy but keyed in listening when they talked about side benefit of helping to sleep. One of them was supposed to help the body better absorb the other. I think my GNC is mag ox as well. Will start being on lookout for minimum filler version of citrate.

Beware the calcium supplements -- without vit K2 they are not taken into bone tissue!

I don't have links at the moment but recent studies have come out showing that women who take calcium have higher rates of heart attacks. I would be wary of taking calcium supplements and would stick to foods that have it naturally.

I love me some GABA and magnesium though!

I guess I am extremely fortunate that I rarely have difficulty sleeping. I do have the occasional bout of insomnia here and there, but nothing that is worrisome. I attempted to take a magnesium supplement, and unfortunately it caused me to be in and out of the bathroom all night long! So, did not repeat that one. I am on the fence about the GABA, but I have told my niece about it for stress/anxiety reasons. She has also been researching it for herself. However, she is beginning to wean from breast-feeding her son, so I don't think she wants to take anything until he is off the breast for good.
