I've always been interested in the differing BS level readings you get from different fingers, so I've been following the readings per finger for three weeks. And, guess what? The finger that consistently gives the highest number is... my middle finger.

Oddly appropriate.

That also fits in with the nurse who takes random BG levels in the grocery store with a Bayer meter. They must take blood from either middle finger, no index, no pinky fingers.

What kind of difference do you see between fingers? Is it just a few points?

As much as 20 points. One finger will be 110 or above, the other will be in the 90s.

Cool, I wonder which finger then is the most accurate? I have heard that testing you palm or arm will be less accurate than the fingers. Stands to reason there's got to be a best finger. I hope it's the pinky because that's my favorite to test!

I think YMMV applies here as well.

From what I've read the alternate sites aren't necessarily less accurate, but they lag behind the capillary readings of the fingertips. Sometimes the lag can be a couple hours. Yet, as we know, even the fingertips have drawbacks.

My FreeStyle Flash lets you test on the thigh, but I find those numbers are as much as 15 points lower than my palms or fingers. That's okay, but it really skews my records. Should I add 15 to the number, just to keep me from going crazy when I look at my numbers later on? It's really nice to be able to give my poor fingers a break now and then.
