Default Wife diagnosed with breast cancer

Been laying low for the last month. My wife found a lump. We had our GP look at and he said get to a specialist. We went to the MU Cancer center in Columbia. They did a mammogram and it did not show anything but they had felt the lump so they did an ultrasound and found it. But they could not do a biopsy for 2 weeks. So another call to our GP and my wife asked if it was his wife where would he send her? We went to St. Louis to the Mercy Cancer and Breast Institute. We had forwarded all the films from MU and they did an exam and biopsy right then. Three days later we had the bad news that it was stage 1 grade 2 invasive ductile cancer (the most common type).
The anatomy of the lump was small, about 1/2 inch. The biology is still not all in but she went ahead with a lumpectomy and during that process the doc confirm there was no sign of cancer in the lymph nodes. She has completed mammo-site radiation which is 10 treatments over 5 days with the radioactive piece inserted in a catheter which was placed in the breast. We know she is pre-menapausal so that dictates the type of pill she will take once a day for 5 years. The only test we are waiting or is a gene marker test. There are 21 genes and it depends on how many markers are turned on if she will have chemo. We should know this week.
She a strong and has a strong faith in God. She was a real trooper through all of this. I have been with her the whole time and wait on her hand and foot.
This hit me hard because my first wife of 28 years died of colon cancer in 1994. All the old feelings came back and bless her heart my wife was very encouraging about this go around. She knows how this has affected me but I have to be strong for her too. So hand and hand we will walk this journey. Thanks for letting me unload.

Being strong and supportive for your wife is the best gift you can give her. Try to remain optimistic and hopeful.

I live in Missouri too. After a call back on the mammogram, I have to go see a surgeon this week about getting a biopsy. I am trying hard not to worry too much. I have been told this lady surgeon is great.

My sincere wishes to you both that the treatment is successful **HUGS**
