Although we here in Ohio are not in direct path with the eye, we are on the outskirts of the wind, rain, and other nasty weather. It has been raining non-stop in the Cleveland, Ohio area since Sunday (yesterday) with no end in site for almost the entire week. Winds are beginning to pick up more, and there has even been talk of snow due to the cold front that is over us right now! I saw pictures of West Virginia and Virginia who received snow.

I'm beginning to wonder if they will even have trick-or-treat on Wednesday evening since this isn't supposed to let up until at least Thursday. Not good having all this candy in the house!

Also playing havoc on my system with the pressure changes and such. So gloomy and yucky and cold outside. This part of fall I do not like!

God watch over all our friends and family who reside on the east coast who are already getting or have gotten hammered by this Hurricane Sandy. Stay safe!

I'm just west of Baltimore, MD and it's been raining heavily and getting pretty windy - expecting gusts to 70+ later this evening.

Did all the prep stuff - gas, cash, meds, supplies - generator and chainsaw at the ready. Praying that the trees behave and not fall where they would do damage. My driveway is between two large trees, great for shade in the summer but potentially disastrous in a storm. The cars are parked up the street beyond the reach of any trees. We don't flood here (have lived in this house since 1965 so I really know the local area) - only water problem we've ever had was in Agnes in 1972 when the storm drain broke and backed into the sewer lines.

Locally they are pretty much saying "You WILL lose power". After Irene last year we were out for 6 days, but whatever those guys from Florida did after Irene worked when the derechio storm roared through here in late June. All the folks around us that had power pretty much right away after Irene were out and we were in this little island of power.

Travel restrictions have just been announced - only emergency folks allowed out. Me, I'm not even getting too close to the windows, much less going outside!

Life is setting up to get pretty interesting real quick here and up the coast.

Well, just giving an update here from Cleveland, Ohio. We received the very high winds and rain all through the night and still today, however the winds have slowed down. They should diminish more as the day goes on today. I made it to work, but had to get creative as there were big trees blocking the main road from my development to the highway. But I did make it to work safe and sound.

The waves on Lake Erie last night were nothing less than awe inspiring. I have lived in Cleveland all my life, and I don't think I have ever seen the lake with 18-20 foot waves. It was unbelievable. We did lose power last evening around 11:30 p.m. and still out. Don't know how long that will last. It is cold in the house since the furnace cannot run without the electric. When I left the house around 9:30 a.m. it was 57 inside. I told my 91 y/o MIL to bundle up! Daughter did not have school today.

It was difficult falling asleep last night because first, it was earlier than I usually go to bed, and second I was a bit anxious due to the weather. The winds were horrendous sounding, and I have two huge trees in the front of my house that I was concerned about. Last wind storm we had the top half of the huge oak in front broke and fell on my house. Luckily it was teetering between other large branches so it did not do damage to the house. Ever since then I'm a bit apprehensive. I also have woods behind my house and those trees are rather tall. Always worries me in heavy winds. I also had difficulty sleeping because I could not use my CPAP (no electric). I'm so used to wearing the darned thing at night, I have difficulty sleeping without it.

Oh well. Hopefully we will get our electric back today. If not, hubby will have to connect the generator. I hate doing that because the darned thing is noisy. But, since it is cooler weather, the windows and doors are not open, so don't hear it as much.

I hope everyone else who was in the affected areas from Sandy are safe and sound and we will be hearing from them very soon. God Bless to everyone.
