Default Workarounds

I am finding that I can usually eat something pretty legal at a restaurant. Pizza toppings scraped off the crust, a sub-hold the bun, a beef salad at the Thai place, etc. My favorite is our little Mexican place who will fix me enchiladas supremas without the tortillas - yum!

What are some of your Workarounds?

I don't eat out much. The few times I have since dx have been pretty easy to say on menu. At the Steakhouse just got veggies instead of the potatoes and at a mexican place, had the seafood taco minus the shell and ignored the chips.

Every Saturday a group of friends does brekkie - and of course, all choices come w/ hashbrowns and toast. Well, for me it is cottage cheese and tomatoes along side my veggie omelet.

Depends on my mood lol:

These items were determined pre-metformin so I had to be very careful. The met is allowing me a few more carbs, but I try not to indulge too far.

Edo - Japanese. Instead of rice I ask for extra veggies, and hold the extra sauce.

Opa! - Greek. They have a low carb plate which is a generous helping of Caesar or Greek salad and a skewer of meat, no bread, extra tzakiki

Taco-time - Mexican. They have a killer taco salad. I just have them put it on a plate and not the deep fried taco shell. Sour cream and hot sauce for dressing, mmmm, divine!

Pita pit - I have them put my pita filling in a salad, very tasty

Denny's - their breakfast is so good, pick four items so its usually eggs, bacon, sausage and a side of whole wheat toast which I slather peanut butter on. Not perfect but better than a plate full of hashbrowns I think.

Wendy's - salad and a grilled chicken burger minus the bun, add a small chili if really hungry.

What else...hot wings and ranch with some celery at the pub, burger minus the bun. I have a serious love for deep fried pickles, that's a real indulgence now and then, but so not LC lol.

As you see, I eat out way too often

I was smuggling home made salad dressings into restaurants for DH and me for months, then I quit doing it and we were eating their salad dressings. Our A1c's both ended up higher that time. That is the only thing we were doing different. After that I started smuggling again and our A1c's once again started going down.

A couple of days ago I ate at a Greek/Italian restaurant (I know!) and asked for blue cheese to replace the on-the-side vinaigrette. I trust nothing but blue cheese and so far haven't been bitten.

Told them I wanted the blackened ahi but not in a wrap ... just on a plate w/ salad. It was lunch, and they gave me far more (huge piece!) than goes into the wrap for 1/3 the cost of what it is for dinner. Score!

We prefer Waffle House for Dinning out, Fiesta Omelette, Pork Chops, Bacon, Sliced Tomato.

Fast food is a BigMac Salad. I order 2 BigMacs and a grilled chicken salad. Remove the bun place all the meat and some of the fixins on top of the salad. I have to admit its pretty good.

Taco Bell: 3 crunchy tacos, scrape the guts out and put in my own LC tortilla
CiCis Pizza Buffet: Scrape all the toppings off about 100 pieces of pizza, scoop up into LC Pita pocket (I bring with me)
Jimmy Johns: Any sub as a lettuce wrap
Steak & Shake: Chicken Guac burger without the bun or stuffed into LC pita
Chinese Buffet: Mogolian / Hibachi with soy sauce and the cooking sauce
Chicken tenders / fried fish: peel most of the breading off and add hot sauce
