I'm to try and hit a 1000lbs before the man in the red suit visits us. I may have to go to the gym alone to do it though or face the wrath of one of his elves.

Hi

Although I am new to this site, I was diagnosed in 2002. I have only 2 comments. First, the information here is priceless. No doctor can tap into such great resources.

Second, it is heartwarming to see how people who do not know each other take such a personal interest in everyone's successes or help in missteps.

Great Job to everyone,

Gary

I agree with you about not giving up dreams. You and I have a bit in common. I'm also 49 and I was diagnosed just around the same time. And my first thought was what am I NOT going to be able to do. Felt sorry for myself, etc. However, what has happened is I found out what I CAN do now, and also have peace of mind regarding the origin of my other health problem. (Had triple bypass a yr ago and until dx I had no idea where the cardio disease came from) I have never been overweight and generally in good shape. Everything happened so slowly, over an extended period, I had thought it was just part of aging. Little did I know.

I cannot remember feeling so well. Nobody wants diabetes but I truly believe I will live longer because of it. Eating properly and doing everything else I should will achieve a nice long life. I know I'd otherwise not take care of myself as well as I do now. I think the lesson is it's certainly natural to be upset and even grieve about the diagnosis, but after that don't look back because we can do nothing else but move forward. And I believe the best is to look at the glass being half full. There is a silver lining.

So kudos to you and everyone on this site. Knowing I am not alone was half the battle. I still have the occasional "why me" days, but they are fewer and farther between. I'm happy to leave my old self behind. And there is no better cliche for all of this than "it is what it is."

Thanks and God bless all. Nick.
Hey Nick..you made me respond to you with your words! I am only doing what others here have done for me..I was lost at my diagnosis! I could not get straight knowledable answers until I came here. To me, EVERYONE here is my extended family, I may not know them personally but i do love them all!!!! They havce shown me nothing but love so i cant help but love them!!!!

I wish you luck in all your future, please include me as one of your friends for life! I've sentenced myself to life on this list!!!

Peace, Love, and Happiness!

Hey Gary - welcome aboard! Some of us have been together for several years, and been through some real wars together too. Yeah, we know each other pretty well by now. Just happy to have you join us . . . I hope you'll be visiting often!
