I'm convinced one's commitment to treating their D stems from how much crap they went through before being Dxed. I haven't even had so much as a piece of my grandkids birthday cake in 2yrs and to me it feels perfectly natural to be like this.

Hats off to all those who are IN control.

I was a chocoholic before D. Everything else were in moderation.
I have got my mind around NOT eating carby, but when I want a little fruit, I will have it, in moderation to void a big spike.

I was on a 10-day cruise in January of this year and found them to be very accomodating with my meals. Very simple with fish or meat & veg for a sit-down dinner or I could choose from the buffets at meal times.

Oh - I wanted to add that my most recent A1c included 6 weeks spent on cruise ships, where it's MUCH harder to control what's in those sauces. I made a huge BFD about it to the chefs, but possibly my A1c might have been a little better had I been eating at home.[/QUOTE]

Oh also wanted to add that the fish were with garlic or lemon butter and chicken with mushrooms in butter. I was lucky and did not have to worry about sauces other that what was served on the side.

I'm right there with you! It's not because I'm a "goody two shoes" or anything like that. I have never been able to stick to a diet or woe long-term, so my fear is that if I do "cheat" I'll never get back on track. This is a HUGE fear for me. I was diagnosed in February of this year and immediately changed to lchf. So, I haven't even been at this a year yet. I did cut my a1c in half, but still have a way to go for an ideal a1c (if that is achievable for me). I'm even afraid to put off limit-foods in my mouth. I always have someone else taste things if I'm cooking for others. It didn't work for me at Thanksgiving, though. I've been the gravy maker in my extended family forever. But, at Thanksgiving, I guess I never did get it right. I don't know what I did differently from usual, but I heard it wasn't great flavored gravy. Oh, well...I'll blame it on my tasting person.
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who is being somewhat "anal" about this. But, there's a lot at stake, and I'm not willing to go there.

I really never cheat, except ... I OVEREAT LC foods.

But I VERY rarely eat HC foods as a cheat. Better to stay in ketosis.

I dropped one G from the double G, Gluttony and Guilt, I'm left with just the Gluttony of all things LC.

Example: wife wasn't eating dinner, I was hungry. A pound of smoked sausage fried with onions, peppers, jalepenos. Dropped a can of green beans in with it as well, ate it all.

Add me to the 'overeat' crowd . . . and it's why I don't lose weight, not that weight loss is a priority of mine. But if there are hot wings, deviled eggs, sausages, bacon, etc., already ready, I'm hogging it down all day long. I stopped buying packaged bacon bits because I was too apt to open a package & eat it all; better to have to cook it first to slow me down.

One of the things that keeps me from the carb cheats is the recurrence of reflux (this being the worst), bloating, flatulence & all the other digestive symptoms. I never want to go there again . . . one of my kids once told me I was the 'gassiest' person ever, and he was right! But no more!
