Default New Stores to me

Hi Everyone, Went for a trip this weekend to 2 specialty grocery stores that are a reasonable trip for me.

Whole Foods Market and Trader Joe's

I thought both stores were very nice and very well stocked with a lot of organic foods and specialty items. It was so over whelming with all the selections available and all the label reading. I did pick up some items and some excellent tasting smoked salmon from the Whole Foods Market fish counter ---YUM!

My Question -- Does anyone have any recommendations for items that are HFLC in these stores. Thought maybe some of you have shopped at either one of these stores and have some good suggestions based on experience.

Thanks and keep pricking those fingers! -- Bman

I'm with you at those stores, can't figure out what to buy. I'd like to buy some grass feed beef but it's soooo expensive.

The only grass fed beef I can afford is the hamburger-- I make stroganoff or tacos with it and can usually get 4 servings from 1 pound.

Bman, are those stores perhaps on the East side of Cleveland, like in Beachwood? I was going to head to Whole Foods myself (perhaps today) to get some WPI (Whey Protein Isolate) since I want to attempt the pasta that MCS has invented.

As far as grass fed beef, we eat mostly venison as red meat, so I guess that is as grass fed as you can get (don't really know if they eat grass; I think more acorns and berries perhaps). Since my husband is a hunter, we usually have a good supply of venison year round from hunting season. I believe we have two deers this year, and that should last us through next season.

I buy a living basil plant on every visit to Trader Joe's. I love going there, as it reminds me of a field trip. You never know what you will find, but it is a delight to look!!!

Hi naynay,

Yes these are both on the east side of Cleveland in that area --Whole Foods -- University Heights on Cedar
Tader Joe's -- Woodmere on Chagrin

The location for Whole Foods on Cedar is the newer and nicest of the 2 in Cleveland.

Yep, I know what you mean. It is HUGE~

I drive past it whenever I have to go to the Main Campus of The Cleveland Clinic from work (I work in Warrensville Heights). I like the ride through the different burbs (especially down Fairmount Blvd. Such beautiful old houses). I think there is a Whole Foods in Woodmere on Chagrin now as well. I was going to head over there for some supplies. I think I need to do some baking and cooking this weekend, and do some freezing since I'm kind of lazy when it comes to making all this great food (even though I like it).

Thanks for the reply.

That place is huge --- overwhelming actually!
I will have to try the drive down Fairmount sometime -- sounds nice
There is a Whole Foods on Chagrin very close to Trader Joe's.

When I was at Trader Joe's I went for a walk in that plaza and found a nice little spice shop called Penzeys Spices -- neat little place and they have every kind of spice -- found some nice new spice blends for baking fish with. My goal was to find some new places to shop and I think I accomplished that plus some!

Hope the baking and cooking turns out well

Since I moved from CA to MT, no more Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. We have some similar to Whole Foods, but not nearly on as large a scale. I do miss those two stores!!

I love Penzeys!! No stores near me but I shop their online store a lot! Excellent quality and an amazing selection!!

Bman, go down Fairmount Blvd during the spring or fall...so very lovely during those times of the year in Cleveland. I am a fan of turn of the century homes and the houses on Fairmount are from that era. They are just breathtaking. Big old homes with sprawling yards. I usually take Fairmount all the way to Cedar Hill. So, a little drive through Coventry at the same time! What a treat! I can just imagine walking down Fairmount Blvd back when the elite like The Rockafeller's lived in Cleveland. Seems like a romantic era, and just so calming.
