Default My progress....?

Hello all:
I'm wondering how I'am doing so far...... am I taking too long to get BG under control?
In a few days I will move to 2000 MG of Metformin, (2 ea. 500 MG) in morning, and two in evening.
In 2007 I could not handle 2000 MG daily (upper torso would itch and get hot during the night, waking me up. QUIT MEDS (big mistake).

Presently I can tolerate 1500 MG daily (been slowly working up), but I can feel itch spots on upper torso, but they last for 5 to 10 minutes, then may not occur for 12 hrs.
Once I touch spot, itch goes away, just annoying.
I have lost 6 pounds, and have increasing exercise routine.
Please review Signature.....

Hello "Late"

I see from your profile that you have 30 posts here on the DF. From that I assume you have noted that the majority of members here use a low-carb way of eating to control their blood sugars. And that metformin works better with a low-carb diet.

You might want to review your diet and see what your daily carb load is, along with testing around your meals, and try to reduce the amount of carbohydrates you are consuming. That alone will go a long way to lowering your BG. As I'm sure you are aware, 169 is still too high and will cause complications in time.

This is personal opinion (take it for what it's worth) - if I had shown to be senstitive/allergic to metformin, and continue to do so, then I would not take the medication. It's hard on one's body to be constantly assaulted by allergens and takes a toll on ones immune system.

Just a thought based on my experience. I only get itchy when I cheat with sweets. Maybe sugar is the trigger food for you, too. No sugar=no itch for me.

VeeJay:
I have an excel spreadsheet that enables me to list the time and what was eaten. I mean everything, and since I do not work, it's pretty accurate. Glucose readings are part of recording routine.

I do miss recording once in awhile, but not often. And my consumption of CARBs and SUGAR is changing as I learn about foods. Much improvement is needed.

JT Reagan:
My General Practice Doctor accepts the concept of increasing metformin dosages and seeing what I can tolerate, and I do wonder about that....
Thanks for inputs......
