Default Frustrated!

I was dx on 3/15/13 with a fsbs of 552 and an A1C of 11.3. Started janument the next day. I immediately went lchf and no sugar at all. No matter what I do I can not get my numbers where I feel they should be. I'm still in the 140ish range even with my severe carb restrictions (almost none) and my medication(2xday). Am I missing something? I can eat my dinner at night and having nothing else and still test around 120-140s in the morning. Am I doing something wrong? I've read all the info that everyone has provided me as a newbie here and I just don't know what else to do.

Okay, so this is a couple weeks, in ... are you still losing weight?

It took me longer to normalize, from running that high ... patience, grasshopper! Metformin takes 3 - 5 wks to kick in, for one thing. Give it a couple more weeks, and some more weight (unless you are slender ... then, RAISE HELL and request antibody testing! ;-) )

Here's a couple of things to remember. 1.) our livers produce sugar so that's why your numbers could be up in the morning. It's not just eating carbs or sugar that effects our BG. It's health issues, stress, and other things. I know it's frustrating...hang in there we've all been there.

A friend is (was) there. I researched a lot and found some interesting stuff.

Are you getting enough sleep?
Are you under stress?

My friend was having a difficult time and I insisted on getting enough rest, sleep, relax and some walks. It worked. I'm not saying this is the only explanation/solution, I'm saying that some chemicals get in the way when you don't get enough sleep and you are under stress. It's complex but you can find some good readings on how sleep helps our body. One problem is, checking too often might increase stress.. having high glucose can also increase stress...

Hope you get better soon.

Your numbers look great to me. Give it more time.

Yep, think it is just time. I think it took me about a month to start seeing a bigger drop.

I had not thought about the stress part...and yesterday was very stressful. So that could very well be the reason. I also work a swing shift switching from days to night every shift I work with the most time between switches being 3days. So maybe with all that it's just going to take me longer. I guess I'm just impatient.

Thanks a lot guys y'all have helped me to feel a lot better about where I'm at.

what kind of exercise are you getting daily?

Eating correctly and meds are good, but you need to get into a daily exercise routine.

I hung In the 130s for what seemed forever and eventually eased down to the 120s and eventually into the 1 teens and then to the hundreds. It took a lot of time to do it. I examined my 'thought to be strict' diet and cutting out no sugar added ice cream, pop corn, and diet mt dew I finally got below a hundred. I think I skipped the 90s.

Lack of sleep and stress do not help in lowering FBG. I thought at times straining to pass gas raised my BG 10 points.

BG control takes time and effort to get it down and keep it down. Don't rush it and be consistent.

The swing shift bit is rough. Watch for weight loss. The Janumet is a combination of Januvia and Metformin. Each works very differently. Your doc is likely to think those glucose numbers are fine. Next time you go in, you might ask to test for GAD65 antibodies and c-peptides if they've not done so.
