Default dry eye syndrome

Hello everyone, I have been to the doctors this morning as my eyes have been feeling dry and my vision goes blurry shortly after getting up in the morning and gets worse in the afternoon. He told me I probably have dry eye syndrome because of diabetes. I'm insulin dependant, my last a1c was 5.9 and my bg control is good so I was not anticipating any issues. Does anyone else have this problem or any tips for dealing with it?

Thanks
Tony

Check with an eye specialist. He may have a different opinion about the cause. Mine did. Are you using the over the counter eye drops?

I visited the opthamologist and have the opposite to what you have. I had one eye that was very teary and she drained it through the lower lid to ascertain if there was a blockage. She did both eyes just to be sure.
Mine is better now.

You might get your answer there. Hope its nothing serious.

Yes, hypromellose eye drops. If you know of anything better I could use i'd be grateful. I find any time I go to the doctor with an ailment it gets blamed on diabetes so I am feeling a bit sceptical about the cause. I'll push my doc for a referral to an eye specialist as you recommended. Hopefully the eyedrops will help in the meantime

Dry eye syndrome is common with Diabetes. Couple of options, use a artificial tear solution as often as needed or get the duct that drains the fluid from you eye plugged, not something I wanted to do.

Sorry, the eye drops are prescription, not over the counter

I was just reading about the plugs, didn't like the sound of that lol. Hopefully the eye drops will help enough to make it manageable. I still have so much to learn about this stupid disease :|

I have very large ducts around my eyes, in fact if I pinch my nose shut I can blow air out of them. I could see me now having a cold a blowing a plug across the room.

That sounds like it could be a messy accident. Out of curiosity I just tried blowing air out of my ducts. Now people are looking at me very strangely.

I have dry eye and use Restasis, prescribed by my opthamologist. I had it years before my diabetes dx. Restasis increases tear production and works brilliantly for me.
