How to get a better morning drop

Waking each morning and taking my BG is easy, kind of. I can wake, I have the meter right in bed with me along with a alcohol swab in a cute little basket. My trouble comes in with the blood drop. I am not having an easy time getting myself to bleed. I have to poke myself sometimes 2 or 3 times before I can get it to show enough.

How can I get my finger to bleed better first thing in the morning before I get moving? I was just using my thumb because that was my best finger but it is starting to fail me. Help

BTW that cute little thumbs up has taken on a new meaning for me. lol

Try snapping your fingers 2-3 times before u take blood. Works for me. The right hand second finger (one next to the pinkie finger) gives me the best fasting reading. I save that finger for every morning. It usually gives me a couple of points lower than other fingers. Find your favorite finger :)

Okay you can get different readings from different fingers? So which one is the more true or accurate reading?

I know weight and BG are not the same but i can get a lower weight on my home scale depending on how I stand on it but if I am being true to myself I have to believe the higher number is right

Every reading that your meter gives you can have an error margin of + or - 10%. Hence i focus on the trend of readings rather than the number. I get concerned if i see an increasing trend. My favorite finger may give me a reading of 96 while the left hand one may give 99 in the same case. That does not mean ur reading is 96 or 99. It could be 97 or 101. I use the same finger for consistency. And also because any three digit number messes up my morning mood :)

Trick is focus on the trend. Numbers will fluctuate. Trend will not.

Always take your highest number into account, whether it is weight or BG, that way you are safer. There is no point in fooling yourself.

Like Paulomi says either snap your fingers or give your arm a couple of jerks to get the blood flowing well and there you go.

I use alternate site testing in the mornings. I haven't eaten in a lot of hours and nothing should be changing quickly. Even if it is, alternate site testing works as well for me as finger testing.

You might try taking an aspirin every day thins your blood. Even the 81 mg should work.

First, I would stop using alcohol swabs! They aren't necessary at all and their continued use will create toughened skin at the sites when you lance yourself thus making it increasingly more difficult to get a drop. Simply wash your hands in warm water only and use the sides of your fingers not the pads.

I too wash my hands with warm water before testing. The downside being i have to drag myself out of bed for it and if i do that (however quietly), my dog comes to know and is super excited that its morning and time to go out. :(

I generally go to bed with clean hands and just sit up, lick my finger a bit and test right then. What could I do during the night to dirty it up? Maybe your dog won't hear you just sit up?

:)
