Default The Balance of Nature, woe is me

Last year as some of you may recall we took our first vacation in 12 years. It was a disaster, hurricane pushed off the outer banks, car battery died, long trip home with an overly infected tick bite.

Fast forward to last week. I planned a family vacation, two of our children and 3 of the grand kids. I booked 3 cabins a year in advance. It was one of Florida's State Parks, lovely place. We got 2 days of sun then the bottom fell out. I saw a couple across the street building an ark to go home, we had 24 inches of rain in 4 days, tornadoes, water spouts, 50 mph wind, lots of lighting, roads flooded and the two grand kids in fist fights constantly. As if that wasn't bad enough my daughter and wife picked up a cold. My daughter in-law had just got back from Hawaii and had some kind of bug when she was there. It flared up in a big way. Son had to take her to the ER Wed night and back to the hospital Thursday night, she is still in the hospital in Florida with high fever and constant nausea. We brought the grandkids home, 9 hrs in the car with a screaming 14 mnth old baby, I got a new meaning of noise.

She seems to be doing better and hopefully can come home soon, Docs are still not sure what is wrong with her, lots of antibiotics and fluid, morphine pump for the headache. He may try to fly her home instead of driving her home.

Next year its going to be just the wife and me on vacation.

Oh my goodness!! I am so glad you're back home, after seeing the time you had! I think you're spot on, with flying her home. I'd do the same. Geesh ... you need a vacation from all that. (too soon for jokes? )

UGH, Marty! Sounds like quite the misadventure.

Sometimes I am grateful for not TRYING to have too much of a vacation ...

I am so sorry. I have a tendency to get sick on vacation because I go go go at work and then when I relax the bugs attack. You seem to have ticked off some pretty powerful gods, I'd start researching and sacrificing things. Start with carbs. :P

All right - enough is enough. Next year you & wife need to just hop a train out here & park on my porch for a week - free room & board - LC drinks on the house too. I swear even if it rains, it's okay. My kids say there's nuthin' they like better than sittin' on this porch while the rain patters down.

(I remember that tick bite . . . you posted a picture! )

Oh crud - what a misadventure!

Much of this could be avoided if only you'd vacation in California. We have no rain in the summer. Period. It's perfectly warm and dry - no East Coast mugginess. Plane ride is not much more than 9 hours door to door! I'd fly from SF to NC in 5 hours.

You've made me stop missing thunder storms for the moment ...

The highlight of the week was being able to sit on the beach before the storms rolled in and watching the water spouts form over the ocean. Then it was run like heck to safety.....
