A 5.4 this morning for me. I met a friend in town today and fell for the typical thief's scam. Left my iPhone 5 on the table in front of me while we used it as an wifi hotspot and some "beggar" came by with a piece of paper with his typical "please give me money" spiel written on it. We shook our heads to tell him we had no money and he proceeded to put the paper down on the table, pointing at it. We again shook our heads so he picked up the paper and left. It wasn't till at least an hour later that I noticed the guy had used sleight of hand to take both his paper and my iPhone that was now conveniently underneath the paper.

Made a police and insurance report and ordered a new iPhone 5S which will arrive next week. Today can end already.

CD, sad to hear that. Never heard of beggars with "give me money papers" before. I know that its possible to trace phones, but than you must have a special program activated. I have no such function activated on my phone and if you have it some job to find the person on the GPS, but you seem to have an insurance and the police is contacted.

Hans, I did have Find my iPhone activated but thieves get past it by simply turning the phone off immediately. I also have it set to render the phone useless after 10 failed passcode attempts but I have a feeling it's fairly simple for them to reset a phone regardless.

59 (3.27) this frigid morning, 70 (3.87) at bedtime.

-10F (-23.3C) when I went to bed 3AM, 0F (-17.8C) when I got up 11AM. It snowed lightly all morning, barely an inch, but has stopped and a bit of sun peeking out makes the snow sparkle like glitter. It is almost 4PM and temp all the way up to 9F (-12.8C) Looking at the mountains that divide us from Idaho I see nothing but clouds and more bad weather headed this way.

@canadiandude, so sorry about your phone! When DH and I traveled in Europe he warned me about that trick. And sure enough in Rome a bunch of kids came up to us once with a paper asking for money that they held out. I had on a ***** pack and I just ever so slightly felt the zipper start to move and quickly jerked back from the kids. Friends we met had gone to Milan and several men approached them on the street, told the man there was something on his jacket and reached like they were going to brush it off. They pulled it down in the back pinning his arms behind him and quickly stole his wallet and ran. They get cleverer and cleverer. It is a shame you have to be so vigilant all the time.

4.5 this morning.

Huge thunderstorm which seemed to go on all through the night. Still raining very heavily but temp around 20C so still warm. We often get this 'tropical-like' rain at this time of the year - makes planning outdoor events tricky.

What a bummer CD. Hope you had all your phone info backed up elsewhere. Had my phone stolen years ago and lost all my work contact numbers. It was a real hassle.

112 this morning
111 yesterday morning

I've been snowed in for 3 days--hasn't been above freezing since Friday morning. All schools still cancelled for tomorrow, but I'll have to wait until in the morning to find out about my work.

95 this freezing morning. Wish the 95 was the temperature haha. Temperature this morning -25 c which I believe is -12F . We also had a -40c with the windshield which would be the same in F. Would have been a good day to camp out at home but we went to a hockey game. We are anything if not hardy!
John and Judy, Hope you are both feeling better soon.

A 101 (5.6) this morning. My work crew had our Christmas get-together last night at a Mexican restaurant (not my usual). I had the grilled chicken salad and a large guacamole. The waiter must not have habla englis any better than I habla espaol. The salad came default with a vinaigrette, wasn't aware of that, I figured I'd ask for ranch when it got there since he didn't ask when I ordered and I couldn't get his attention when he turned and walked away. It was sweet tasting and I scooted most of it away from the low spot in the middle of the bowl and let it drain each bite. The grilled chicken looked like it was thin strips torn from sliced lunch meat package. The large guac turned out to be about an extra small ice-cream scooper full. Not surprised at what FBG was. Ate out again tonight, fried catfish, so probably won't be surprised in the morning either.

5.5 (98) today.

CD, sorry about your phone. I lost two phones in one week last year at this time. My 'regular' and the old spare I had. I was in a shop and the one slipped out of its case and the other I left behind somewhere on a counter top. Both disappeared within minutes. It is such a nuisance.

We had a 'beggar' sing opera outside the restaurant I was sitting at on Saturday. He had such a beautiful voice that I had to call him to give him a 'tip'. I thought he might have lost his 'stage job.

I always say that if these criminals were in business, we'd have thriving economies. They are so clever.
