5.6 (101).

Cataract surgery update: I no longer have a "halo" effect around bright lights, and yesterday I could see clearly out of that eye most of the afternoon. Right now, still a bit of soft focus, but nothing noticeable.

And I still find myself reaching for my glasses first thing in the morning, glasses that are no longer there.

Went to freezing last night. Brrr.

93 this morning.

By the way, I changed my user name because I never realized when I joined and used my real name, that a day might come when a friend, newly diagnosed type 2, and has bought into the ADA hook line and sinker, is fighting with me to follow along with him and drop lchf woe. I'd like to share about that some day and I don't want him to realize I'm talking about him. It's almost to the point of me losing a friendship with him, it's gotten so bad.

4.2 at 4am and now I know why Missy Puss wakes me so early. She sees the light from the bathroom next door (he gets up before sparrowfart) and thinks the sun is coming up (this is because she sleeps in the loungeroom. If she was in my bedroom, she wouldnt notice). Sadly there is no way to completely block light from coming in, and I wouldnt want to. Sighhh. Rocks and hard places.

72 (3.99) this cold morning, 81 (4.48) at bedtime.

I am so bummed! My precious Accu-chek Aviva is rejecting my strips. Earlier this year, I set the date back on the meter so I could continue to use these strips which actually don't expire until 11/30/14. I still have 250 strips. The other batch expired 7/31/14 and I couldn't fool the meter because I guess that code was already in and stored. I have 300 of those strips. So I started using the Nov exp strips and hoped when all 500 of them had passed through the meter, I could go back and try the July exp ones again. Last week I started getting little messages " code expired" or something but it still took the blood and gave a reading. Last night (after midnight) I got the E-5 error and nada.... Is that meter smarter than me???? So I am on to the OneTouchUltra 2 now. At least I got 10 more months with the Accu-chek.

@Tamagno, feel better soon!

@Wally, so glad to hear you are getting rain!!

One of my long-term friends at work is Type 2, which I have known about for some time, and we're about the same age, so when I was first diagnosed (summer 2013), she was one of my early sources of info and support. (That would be before I found this forum.) She admits she struggles with her blood sugar and her numbers are higher than her doctor likes... but then she has to have her oatmeal every morning, and has told me that LCHF will do me more harm than good because of all the fat and lack of "quality carbs". (We have agreed to disagree.)

I have no problem agreeing to disagree, and I wish it would stay at that. I've told him "we're not discussing this anymore" but he just goes on and on and on. The last point he 'made' was 'without carbs your body will have no energy' *big sigh*

I'm off to buy more butter. I ran out of butter this morning making my eggplant eggs benedict - this time with real hollandaise sauce. Yum

96 / 5.3 this morning

Patdart, back in the olden days I was a sinus-infection queen. I think it took 5 - 7 days before I realized nasal steroids were helping. YMMV.

I was usually told to use the steroid spray once a day. In between, I found nasal irrigation with sterilized water (add bit of salt & baking soda) several times a day actually seemed to help the most. Again, YMMV

(Online, there are instructions on how to turn a water pic into a nasal irrigator - changed my life.)
