Default Vitamin D Supplements

just a bit of personal information that might help others... a while back I read on a different forum about Vitamin D definancy with diabetics and that it would be helpful to supplement. Anyway without my Doc's knowledge I went ahead and purchased some from the healthshop and after some investigation from various souces decided to take 6 capsules a day.. at 1000 per capsules. When I got my script to have blood works done I asked my doc to do a Vit D test... he was aghast that I would waste taxpayers money on this test! Why when we live in Australia (espcially West Australia) would I need a Vit D test... go and sit in the sun .... which I do, but told him to I was supplementing with 2 caps a day ( didn't want to scare him with the six!) anyways when my results came in today... guess what? the average range is from 75 onwards. With my six caps - my levels were 85 (?)! Told the doc exactly how much I was taking and his response was.... keep taking them

Definitely something to keep in mind. Thanks, Odar! (and I hope your doc learned something from this too! )

I finally got those results of my vitamin D testing in the mail friday. What a coincidence...mine is pretty low. Normal for this lab is 30-80. Mine is 19. So I now have a bright new shiny prescription for vitamin D that I will fill on Monday. Apparently there is a correlation (from what I have been reading) between diabetes, insulin resistance and low vitamin D. Definately something more people should have checked I think. I will have to do some research on this when I am not so tired...horrible night at work. I was so stressed my blood sugar was high all night from it *sigh*

I was getting BAD cramps and I was low on D, (Dr tested and aproved) I started 1000 mg and that helped with eliminating the cramps.
