Default R U Superhuman?

Scientists want people with unusual traits to reveal themselves - and it could earn them $10,000

Researchers want to track down people with rare phenotypes – for example, people whose skin heals extremely fast or whose skin stretches a great deal, or they have exceptional wound healing after surgery or trauma, or have consistently displayed exceptional resistance or immunity to infections, or after a robust clinical diagnosis, displayed unusually fast or spontaneous disease remission, etc.

The company is asking potential entrants to describe their interesting or rare characteristic on an online form which is available until midnight on February 20. They say the best submission will receive an award of $10,000

Scientists hope studying these people could help them find new treatments for arthritis, diabetes, MS, epilepsy and Parkinson's disease.

I could only wish. Not feeling real positive about all this right now, after losing a favorite cousin this week to diabetes/parkinsons. I named a child of mine after this fella, and now he's gone at the tender age of 71. I could scream at the futility of fighting these damn diseases! Who really wants to cure them when there's so much money to be made continuing to treat them?

Okay - sorry for the rant - it just hurts like hell is all.

I am very sorry about your loss, Shanny. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Your rant is well justified ... in fact, it's necessary.

I'm so sorry, Shanny. I know how you feel. I lost both parents and a brother to diabetes. That's why this forum is so important. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that we are trying to pull as many as possible from the clutches of those who care more about money than they do about human lives.

And we can't even get 600 miles across country to get to his services because of this friggin' storm system that keeps coming at us!

I am so sorry. Hopefully, there's a way to say a proper farewell from where you are.

Shanny, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Adding the frustration of not being able to travel, and so share this family loss, to the loss itself is truly terrible.

Nope, I fear I do not qualify for being superhuman...I think I am kinda average.

However, let us hope that the search is aimed at figuring out 'why' and so maybe actually aimed at 'cure' rather than 'design more new, potentially dangerous pills'. (I know, I know, I am a dreamer of dreams.)
