Magdalene, so very sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I lost my Mom at the age of 66, and it's been almost 9 years now. I miss her each and every day. That is why I am fighting this diabetes thing. She died from diabetes related complications.

It is difficult for us when we lose any of our loved ones, but especially those we are closest with.

My thoughts, prayers, and sympathy are with you and your family. Take time to grieve, but keep at least healthy foods for you to use as comfort. I myself am a comfort and stress eater and I know how difficult it can be during times of stress. Just try to stay away from those heavy hitting carbs and remember your health is important and you must carry on.

Good Luck and God Bless.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I still have my mom around but lost my dad when I was 6 years old (he's been gone 36 years). I hope you find peace and love to help you cope. :grouphug:

Well, I did ok, on the trip... took care of what had to be taken care of, had two slips and one "screw it" in the whole ten day ordeal so im not too upset with myself. And I covered for each screw up so my sugar never got too high, so that is good, but I did notice that on the "screw it " meal which was the only time I had wheat, I felt miserable and exhausted and slept all that day in the car (it was on the way home, for some reason everything hit me hard about that time, and it didn't help that my father's ashes were in the backseat as well) even though my blood sugar stayed perfect thanks to the triple dose of Humalog I took to cover the ridiculous meal...so it is more than the sugar that I have a problem with... on the other hand the other two slip ups (hubby took me to the golden corral so I could feast on all their low carb goodies since I had been not eating much, couldn't resist walking by the fudge... fuuuuudge... heh) were straight up sugar and I felt fine... I never thought I had any gluten problems but apparently I do, or something of the sort... anyway it proved a point to me and I don't think I will have too many more "screw it" times heh. So thank you all for the sympathy and well wishes, it makes me feel so good that you guys care, and some of you I haven't even talked to on here yet! Thanks again!

Yep, I save my "screw-it" moments for pure sugar or fruit or booze. Wheat isn't worth the cheat, too many nasty side-effects (please note in the past I had been known to eat a loaf of bread in a single sitting, and I had never felt the side effects until I gave it up). It helps that I can have bacon and butter.

Glad you managed your ordeal quite well, considering the turmoil.

Dodie.. yeah, mom was about all that was left...I have a great aunt whom I rarely talk to, and my mothers biological father that ive met once, and that is it on her side... my dad died 5 years ago and all that is left on his side are two uncles, one of whom didn't speak to me for five years since daddy died.. luckily I managed to make four more family members and marry a whole bunch more, (not in that order lol) so that's comforting heh.
