Default Type 2 Bolus Paranoia !!

Type 2 Bolus Paranoia !!

i was trying to reverse my neuropathy

10:22 took r-lipoic acid 200mg, alpha lipoic acid TR 300mg, evening primrose oil 1.3 gram, biotin, fish oil 2 grams, ginkgo biloba 120mg TR x2, cinnamon, milk thistle, bilberry, eyebright, vit c 250mg,

11:00 99 ReliOn 99 mg/dl

11:30 ate huge veggie soup (broccoli, cauliflower)

12:00 96 ReliOn 96 mg/dl (unexplained blood sugar drops are often caused by broccoli)

12:00 injected Humulin N 17 IU

Type 2 Bolus Paranoia !!

i stopped using metformin yesterday

THIS IS ONLY A TEST !

13:00 109 ReliOn 109 mg/dl

13:30 drank 2 teaspoons of sucrose 30 calories, 8 grams, 70 to 90 mg/dl rise possible or 140 to 180mg/dl without metformin
1 teaspoon (4 grams) of sucrose = 15 calories, 7.5 calories of glucose, may equal 45mg/dl BG ?? got 36mg/dl rise from 1 teaspoon of sucrose (with metformin)

14:00 105 ReliOn 105 mg/dl

14:30 79 ReliOn 79 mg/dl (insulin overcompensation caused by fast sugars)

15:00 66 ReliOn 66 mg/dl

now imagine what would have happened if i had used a bolus to compensate for those 8 grams of sucrose!

I MIGHT BE DEAD NOW !!

my "first phase insulin response" that has been dead for 12 years suddenly just crawled out of it's grave!

Jim? Get yourself a doctor's prescription and quit this unsupervised monkeying around! Darn it anyhow - you're gonna hurt yourself, or else some newbie is gonna think they can try it and they'll hurt THEMselves!

Default Shanny

how many American doctors even know what lipoic acid is even though it has been used successfully in Germany to treat neuropathy for many years?

Have you asked any of them lately? Mine knows, and he knows that I use it because I've told him so.

I have to agree with Shanny here...I am all for T2's using insulin sooner than later to save some pancreatic function...but I would never advise someone to use insulin with no medical supervision of some kind. its just too easy to hurt yourself. Besides, the much better regimen now is a basal insulin along with the newer fast acting insulins..you need a prescription for those. They are much more predictable in how they work.

I agree you need a doctor who knows how to use insulin to start using it. And the newer insulins are better than the older insulins. And yes, my doctor knew about Alpha Lipoic Acid as well. Also if one is on Metformin, be sure to ask your doctor to check your B12 levels as Metformin is known to leech the B12 out of your system in some cases, so it is a good idea to have it checked. I am on B12 replacement now because that is what happened with me. Believe me, neuropathy is no fun no matter what the cause.
