I took them back in the 1990s, though from what I hear they haven't changed all that much.

True story... in the materials they gave me for the class about what the drugs used to treat diabetes do, the part about Rezulin was crossed out and additional material was added about the new "safe" alternative, Avandia.

I like ICDogg's approach of asking why is my BG so high when I eat what you suggest. That or just lay your head down and take a nap after saying, "eating all these carbs make me so sleepy"

That sounds like an excellent question to ask. "Why Is My Blood Sugar So High after eating what you suggest"? I would wait for an answer.

Look at it like traffic school. There are some things we must participate in that are somewhat unpleasant but we go because it is required.

Well, that's one way of looking at it! I've never been to diabetes class OR traffic school . . . prob'ly couldn't keep my mouth shut in either place!

I'd love to be a fly on the wall if you were attending a DE class. I think they'd have to hand out Kevlar vests at the door!

When I took the classes, at the last class I asked the "diabetes educator" if she knew how many perks the lobbists for diabetes drug companies in Wash. DC had given the America Diabetes Association to encourage the ADA to keep the carb limits so high. She just stammered and stuttered and acted like she wasn't aware that this is common practice. I hated those classes.

Root canal?

Year-end finals?

Dinner with dear old Auntie Em - the one whole pinches your cheeks, owns 27 cats, makes unseasoned casseroles, and talks incessantly about your evil cousin Ding-Dong?

Those classes are largely useless.

I thought this was America, you know, the "land of the free."

Unless I missed something, I doubt you'll end up in jail for skipping the remainder and reading a book.

No, but if you have an appointment and don't show up for it, the insurance company might refuse to pay, and you might wind up with the bill.

So, if you do cancel, let them know you are doing so first.
