Happy with Dr's response to LCHF

I last saw my Dr (Cardiologist) who is the only one I have, in Nov last year. He mentioned he would like to see another blood test sometime showing BG because mine was a little elevated, no urgency.

I met him last night for dinner and drinks and told him I had reasearched diabetes and pre quite heavily. I also told him I bought a meter and have tested over a couple hundred times in the last 3 months. I also mentioned I have been on a very low carb, 35g a day, and high fat diet. I also mentioned I was ketogenic. I explained I had lost weight (fat) around the middle, I feel great, have lots of energy, no bloating, don't get hungry, etc.

I also mentioned at the onset when first starting LCHF I'd get hypo when hiking and really exerting myself, but it seems like it has subsided when I got into ketosis. I asked him how he felt about it and he said it looks like it's working well for me. I showed him my book for the last 90 days of FBG levels. I also mentioned I don't eat grains or bread, little fruit, but lots of LC veggies, nuts, lots of meat and cheese.

I also mentioned I'm going to get a lipid profile done soon and see how it's affecting those.

About 14 years ago my wife and I did Atkins for a couple of months to shed a few lbs. We didn't stick with it. My Doc did't really think it was a great idea back then. I'm happy to see he's pretty open minded about my WOE. I think it's because he knows me quite well. We have been friends for several years, used to do a lot of hiking, climbing and generally hanging out. When I developed coronary artery disease, he became my doc.

My Dr is also a professor at U of U School of Medicine, and head of Heart Transplant at University Hospital.

That's great that some doctors are finally getting "open-minded". However, you just gotta love the way they say "it's working for YOU" as if it's a surprise!
