Default How Do You Deal With Cold Weather?

When I woke up this morning, the snow was falling and it is really cold. I don't like cold weather and avoid going outside as much as possible. I hate hats and gloves and boots. I deal with cold weather by avoiding going outside but gosh everyone needs groceries at least once a week. How is your weather and how do you cope with the cold?

embrace it. dress appropriately. I'm not much of a cold fan and I live on the prairies in Canada so it gets cold...for long periods of time. If I hide inside for too long I start getting very depressed and we all know where that goes...bad eating choices, poor health choices. I try and get in the occasional FUN outdoor activity - x country skiing, snowshoeing (although I haven't managed so far this winter), focus on the fact that I seem to burn through sugar at a faster rate in the cold and a nice fire or hot drink when I come home feels like a reward.

I just back my old butt up to this woodstove and stay inside! I usually have to elbow my way between the dog & the cat who have permanent reserved parking places on the hearth.

Since we're rural, we usually have a fair stock of staples, so don't worry much about having to get out. And we've already had offers that if we need anything, there are friends who'll deliver! (strangely enough, some of these friends are as old & decrepit as we! lol!)

My suggestion is to move to a warmer climate. We intended to move south from NY when I retired in 1997, but my wife was so depressed about moving when the time came. She would be miserable if we moved, and I do love NY, so we are staying. My idea was to move to Georgia, not far from Atlanta, so we could be close to our son an grandchildren who live there. It would be so much warmer there. We get to see the grandkids only once or twice each year. That is not enough to suit me.

When we lived in Maine it was just part of life from December-March... So I went out when needed and kept the stove loaded...here in Washington if it snows my butt is not going anywhere...they have no clue...lol The thing here is dealing with all the rain

Hubby puts the Blizzak tires on my car. I throw in the winter emergency kit bag (gloves, hiking boots, ski jacket, hand warmers, blanket, food, water, etc).
I put the long johns on under my office clothes (and a third layer of sweats on top if necessary) and off I go.
I will never own a car I don't have Blizzak tires for. I drive 41 miles one way to work and I've never slid an inch with these tires - only problem is the other cars!
I agree with Chesney that the rain here already keeps me from much outdoor exercise (and the fact that I don't get home until way after dark) so I just try to find ways to keep moving inside.

Breezeonby -

I will trade you weather forecasts. Northern IL is forecasting 0 degrees tonight with a wind chill of -10 degrees. It is really cold and I have to go out tomorrow afternoon for an appointment and one errand at the store. After that I'm heading home and I will snuggle under a big afghan and do some knitting.

Car doors frozen shut today! I finally tugged on the passenger side back door and I did get it open. It wasn't a pretty site to see me climbing over to the front seat! I want to move......to Arizona!!!!
