I use the thumb on my non-dominant hand - I slashed it many years ago & required several sutures so it still has a numb spot there & I never feel the poke. It gives a good bead of blood & heals up instantly.

"kinda stupid question"

Never , because they are serious and important to the asker.

I once got some very good advice, it says that" there are no dumb questions, only dumb answers"

My version of that one is "there are no dumb questions except for the ones you didn't ask".

And yes, back of the finger for the stab - unless I misread the book, the target is the space between the knuckle and the nail bed. Like I said, not for me

Okay, I'm going to roll back the lancet to #1 setting and see what happens.... just as soon as I get up the nerve to do it.

I was taught in diabetes education class that the ring finger gets the freshest blood. Then the pinky.

Cool! My class never did a complete section on testing. I worked with a nurse 1:1 after the class, and she was in a hurry. Nice to know at least some places actually cover the basics!

I have tried the backs of the fingers. It hurt like hell and I couldn't squeeze out enough blood to fill the strip. I also cannot get enough blood out of my pinkies. And some of the fingers won't stop bleeding. Go figure!
