Default Peet's Coffee

Peet's opened near my office so I walked down this morning to give it a go. Ordered what I usually order through Starbucks- medium (Grande) dark roast with SF Vanilla syrup. Went around to see what kind they used (my coffee was already prepped)- and I didn't recognize it. So, I just added 1/2 n 1/2 and was on my way!

Walking back, as I waited at a light I took a gulp. Very tasty, but no immediate aftertaste, then I tasted the vanilla. I walked a bit, got to my office door and took another sip.

Dammit, not SF.

Hour later and I'm up on the 130s. I wrote an email to Peets and explained that the baristas had better be on top of the SF/regular orders as for most people, SF orders are not made for weight loss purposes, they are for a health condition.

Im facing probably sugars up in the 140s at the 2 hour mark and am not happy at all- mine have been cruising at ideal levels and it has been a lot of hard work. I'm going to slam more fat at it and exercise at lunch to burn, too.

Back to Starbucks.

I hope you told Peets that they not only just lost a customer, but you were also going to spread the word...they stand to lose (or never see) more customers because of the lackadaisical attitude towards customer orders shown by one person at one store!

Sympathies. I hate stealth sugar.

Yes, Nancy, what is a shame is that it now makes me look at the brand differently. I get that it was opening day at the store and busy, but perfection with allergies/diet restrictions is a challenge. I dont need Peet's to give me free coffee or anything-I just want them to be hyper aware so this doesnt happen again. Ugh!

I've had both Peets and Bucks screw up my orders. Sometimes I take it back. And Bucks is guilty of adding sprinkles (sugar) on top of my SF cinnamon dolce. But I'm slowly getting all my "locals" used to the order. I hardly ever get a double-take these days.

BTW, Peets if you want something with Heavy Cream, it's called "Manufacturers Cream."

Great great input, thanks! They want me to come in and get a gift card (I declind, I would rather have coffees handed out to the homeless in the area and they said they would do it! I can afford coffee.). Turns out the manager's daughter is T1 and she was so upset that I got a full sugar product. One of her rules is that the cashiers are supposed to repeat the order back to you AND repeat it to the maker of the drink in front of you. Nice to hear that she is related to a D so she gets it.

I will ask for the Manufacturer's cream- thanks again!

I would highly recommend supporting a smaller coffee chain. Good for you, and good for them for realizing the mistake! I wrote a complaint to a local McDonald's here that put real sugar in my coffee. I'm not a T1 so it didn't result in a hospital trip, but it COULD have.

We have a great one nearby- but they do not use SF products- Splenda is not even out!

DC is an interesting place- really not a lot of small coffee places. They can't compete!

I was at a place in chicago ordered some early grey with SF vanilla, I didnt tast the aftertaste, asked for them to check, came back and said yes we are certain, sf has the yellow lid. They were right BG test came back fine. I felt awkward for asking but they were really good about it. It was a brand I hadnt heard of but it was pretty good
