How many carbs are acceptable, per meal or per day? Thanks

You set your goal for what you do not want your BG to exceed. However many carbs you can eat and stay below your goal is what you want. Most of us here try to not go over 140 BG and many have a goal of never go over 120 BG. For a lot of us that would be 30 or less grams of carbs per day. Different carbs affect different people differently. You have to test to see how you react. How carbs affect you can be further complicated by what you eat with them, nobody can say with any certainty exactly how many carbs are acceptable. Only thing acceptable is controlled BG.

That depends on your BG after eating them. BG over 136 is causing damage to YOUR body so if you can eat 20 gr of carbs and keep your BG under 136 great. If you can eat 60 gr and stay under 136 even better. My guess is since your diabetic 60gr is too much, only way to tell is to test. Test, eat, after 1 hour test, under 136 good,

If you'd like to list what you're eating, we may be able to help you tweak it!

In general, however, we:

-- Cut out all grains, sugars, root veggies and most fruits
-- Add in fat to make up for the missing carbs

Low-Carb, High-Fat (LCHF) for Beginners has lots of great info, too.

Thanks

Thanks, everyone, for your help. My BG has been over the top! 259 is the highest since October, but Monday, it was 207. I was eating all of the wrong things and the meds that I am on, just won't handle it. Since I started doing the LCHF (2 days), my BG is down to 165. Will keep following this diet and pray that I can get my fasting BG below 100.

As I said in my previous post, I'm guessing that the Joslin Centre converted a figure of 7.5 mmol/L to US units. That conversion would deliver 136 mg/dL.

The figure whether expressed as 136 or 140; or 7.5 or 7.6 represents a statistical value. One person may be lucky and sit on 150/8.3 and get away without complications. Some other poor devil might manage to stay at 130/7.2 and still get problems.

Diabetes86 chose to use 136 as his standard, accepting the advice of the Joslin Centre, others use the figure you'll find mentioned by Jenny Ruhl on her site 140/7.6. I'm an awkward sod and use 120 as mine.:)

One size does not fit all - we each must use our own judgement of what we can achieve and the closer to a non diabetic value we can go, the less likely we are to see problems.
