I just read this article and it's shocking to say the least…

Well, the insurance companies did change the definition of "overweight" years ago so they could charge more money to more people. But the low-fat, high carb diet has certainly taken its toll.

For the whole world, this is very, very not good.

I saw this on BBC America last night. They reported the probable cause as being so many nations now have access to fatty foods...not fattening foods....but fatty foods. I almost threw my fat bomb at the TV.

Heavens! I heard this on the news yesterday as well and was surprised to see China second on the list.

There's got to be more to the whole story.

With China there is problem (for the last, what 30 or more YEARS) of the incoming US fast food companies, ON TOP OF: the one child policy, which means families have one heir, whom they overindulge and fatten up ... on ... you guessed it, all those "new" foods. :-( It was so fascinating -- had been to China as a tourist in 1985, and returned in 2007 to adopted my youngest -- there was a stark difference between generations! Some of the very old (what? -- those surviving their 50's and 60's were tiny, slender people, but their children -- those in 20's and 30's, never knew Mao -- were taller than I!

By the way, my 3 kids were ALL gestated in developing countries, and they eat JUNK and CARBS, but all have always been slender by US standards, while I look at their classmates with my jaw sagging. So ... I dunno.
