Default Reminder to Self " Always wash hands before testing "

Sometimes I crack me up! Last night I had a dinner that was well known and came up to be about 13g of carbs. One hour after I tested and got a 186 mg/dl I immediately started to go over everything I ate to try and figure out what could have caused such a spike. It was only after trying to figure it out for a while that it dawned on me. I washed my hands and tested again and got a 98. I usually always wash before testing but just forgot this time. You would think I just started this, well never too old to learn.

What did you expect, 12 grams of carbs is OK and so is 14 , but 13 was pushing your luck !

Oh wow, I bet you are still getting over the adrenaline hit from that first reading!

Thanks for the reminder!

LOL, well I guess the point is that I wasn't thinking. I just jumped to the conclusion that I had to have eaten something that caused it instead of the more obvious. I always wash my hands before testing, it's just become a habit, so at first it didn't dawn on me.

One time I tested and my meter just said HI. I laughed and said, "Hello to you, too!" and washed my hands and tested again. The second test had a believable number.

One extra detail. After you wash your hands make sure you dry them thoroughly. A wet finger will give you a wonderfully low reading .

That makes me think of the way I react to all computer glitches…I always assume it me, not the machine.

OMG I so have done that and better, after changing meters, I almost passed out when i got a reading of 611, then for that few second my mind rushed with what the heck, then I noticed, the meter was upside down, the new meter took the strip on the other end haha. It was actually 119! Still cracks me up!

I remember you posting about that. I think I get the same "Whaaaaaa?!" Reaction and giggle as you do each time you post it!
