I'm 7 days out of knee replacement and while my sugars are not crazy, I am also not where I normally am. I'm drifitng int he 100's to 110's. Diet is the same, I am sure my acty level is reduced but Has anybody else with DM II on insulin been through this surgery and can corroborate what is happening to my sugars? Diet is rock steady although the appetite is down a bit. Scott
Hey now... you just did some major trauma to your body, those are pretty good numbers, considering the workout your immune system is going through right now. I had higher numbers than that and all I had was a cold.
Sounds like recovery is coming along well otherwise though. My father just got his staples out today, and it's looking pretty good considering his age.
If illness, travel, different height above sea-level, different pollen, pain, emotional stress, exercise, changes in medication, even sitting too long in boring meetings can impact BG...then....yes....knee replacement surgery should be expected to have an impact.
It sounds to me like you are doing very, very well!!!!
Thanks guys, my first knee and only knee to get replaced so untraveled waters. I know the sugars are ok , but I have just become a bit obsessed at times with them. Although the dilaudid does seem to drive the obsession away On my way to more torturous PT this morning. No staples here. Lots of glue and stitches. They come out on friday. Scott
Sounds like you are doing quite well Scott. I would expect my blood sugars to go up after what you went through but I can understand your concern. It doesn't seem like that long ago I was tickled pink if my after meal bg was 120, now if I hit 120 I go I guess it's all relative. Good luck with the PT, I know it isn't any fun.
