Default Pineapple - I KNEW better

Well, I was so cocky with my 85 FBG this morning that I thought I'd add a little pineapple to my cottage cheese. The whole deal was less than 15 carbs. Holy cow. 1 hour PP was 141. I'll probably be fighting that spike all day. No more pineapple for me!

Should add that I never, ever eat that many carbs for breakfast, but I thought I'd try it.

I've not been able to walk/jog for the past couple of days because I developed a little blister/red spot on the bottom of my foot and don't want to take a chance of having an open wound. So I'm benched for a bit.

Back to bacon and eggs tomorrow.

This is what you could call finding out the hard way.

Fruit in particular is really difficult. You get a carb value based on a species of pineapple, or whatever. Then you discover that the one you have delivers a much bigger punch than the book suggests it should. It might be you or it might be the fruit belongs to a different sub species.

Again, we do have to come back to 'eat to the meter' and YMWV

2 hours PP (post pineapple, LOL) is 106. Not where I was, but much better.

Lesson learned. I want to once again thank the wonderful people of this forum. You can't imagine how much you've helped me over the past year. One year ago this week I was struggling with my new diagnosis. It's still a struggle, but I feel way more prepared to handle it.

Amazing how a small bit of carb will shoot up the BS. A small patch of duct take on your foot will prevent a blister from breaking the skin. I use it all the time while hiking, does wonders from preventing friction on the skin. When I feel a hot spot coming I'll tape it.

Duct tape also cured a plantar wart I'd been fighting for months... within a week. Amazing stuff.

Early in the day carbs will spike me if I even look at them.

Thanks for the tip on duct tape. I'll try it! I miss my walk. I've finally gotten up to 5K.

Been there, done that. Usually when I test a new food I keep the carbs under 10. Sometimes I find out my BG likes it. Sometimes I find out even 1 g/carb of that particular food is toxic to me.

We shall not cease from exploration....

But we will be danged careful when exploring!

I'm not even brave enough to test cottage cheese yet!! I can have a small amount of berries (1 oz or less) at breakfast but total carb count for the meal has to be 5 or under to get by unscathed. It is all a learning experience!

I am glad everyone is different! I can get by with about 5 or 6 ounces of fresh pineapple and still remain under 125 mg/dl. And that is having it as an afternoon snack. Since my wife is from the Philippines, there is always fruit in the house and I can eat most in small quantities. Forget about the canned fruit - that is dangerous for my blood glucose!

And then there are our locally grown peaches. A once a year treat…and only one a day…Glorious, but costly to my body.
