Default I think I love you!

I've been searching for years for a diabetes forum that embraces LCHF and self-care instead of toeing the ADA party line with occasional nods to the fact that maybe reducing carbs might help but medication is better.

I tend to speak my mind, and I'm always running afoul of moderators on those forums (no links allowed, no real information allowed unless it's pretty much along ADA lines). Most of them have people who follow the "eat up and shoot up" mentality, and can't even relate to pre-diabetics because--of course-- you'll become a full-fledged diabetic any day now.

So I just wanted to say thanks, as there seem to be many "kindred spirits" here. I'm impressed with the level of knowledge and the understanding of how LCHF and Bernstein are so helpful for anyone on the "diabetes spectrum".

Many of us are refugees from those "other" forums. Another thing that's great about this forum is that moderators don't stand for high drama and keep everyone on topic.

Glad to have you with us Janknitz!! That is exactly how most of us ended up here. We tried a lot of other forums and didn't get any real help, some were even banned from those other forums for their heretical lc/hf talk. I really do feel sorry for those people though because they are walking right down the road to future complications. We, on the other hand are running as fast as we can in the opposite direction to a long, happy, healthy, complication free life!

When I went searching for an online Diabetes support forum, this was the first one that came up on the list. Looked the site over, liked what I saw, so this is where I stayed. I didn't even bother to check out the others.

Low Carb helped me lose weight many years ago. When I got my Diabetes diagnosis last summer, I concluded that the best way to get my blood sugar down (along with the meds) was to slash my carb intake, knowing that all carbs get turned into sugar sooner or later. I was happy to find that this forum has the same message.

As the others have said, many of us are refugees from those other diabetes sites. We didn't start this forum, but when we got here, it seemed like a safe place, and we have made a concerted effort to welcome LCHFers with open arms. Because we do, it has become a bit of a mecca, so it often looks like that's the only method we endorse. Truth is, the only thing we strongly promote is eat-to-your-meter! Funny thing about meters - they really like it when we eat LCHF!

It's great to have you with us, Jan . . . and your title is a favorite saying of mine too!

Hi janknitz, this was my first forum to be on about anything. I never had a reason to leave. Most everything here is really common sense. Of course there are some mysteries to why this or that happens to me but not to you and a few other unexplainable oddities. I've since visited a couple of other diabetes forums, but have not found any reason to return to them.

Glad to have you here to share your knowledge and experiences.

Like Xenon, on DX I immediately went searching for an online forum. I knew & believed in LCHF, had already read BS101 (and a lot more). I knew LCHF was my future.

I found several forums I liked. But this one stood out. Eat to your meter - with a defined testing protocol - is just such good sense. I like other forums, even join discussions from time to time. But, this still feels like the place I ought to be.

((hugs to diabetesforum.com!!!))

I love this place, too. It was the first diabetes site I visited, and have never really found any need to branch out beyond. I was not familiar with LCHF, but it made some sense to me when reading about it, and I figured it was worth a try. It's amazing how well it works!

There's only one other site I visit, and only occasionally. They're kind of LCHF over there, but there is also a large contingent that talks about planning cheat days and continually falling off the wagon ... well, duh, it's because you're not eating LCHF. I have intentionally not registered over there because I know I would say something that would get me in trouble.

Thank goodness for this site. It is no exaggeration when I say it has been the largest single factor to giving me my health back. I've lost 50 pounds since January, decreased my insulin by 30% and stopped taking Metoprolol, because my blood pressure is so low now. None of this would have happened without this site!

(And since I have now made this all about me, welcome aboard Janknitz!)

Like several others, this was the first forum I found so I was spared the hassle...though I'm sure some of the moderators back then were contemplating givin me the bums rush as I wasn't keen on LCHF aspect...naivety and trusting doc and such.

And to be fair, I've found a few LCHF sites/forums that have as much vitriol for other plans as those supporting the ADA.

That's what I like about here. "Eat to your meter" rules. No set dogma other than that.
