Default Dunkin Donuts just killed me!!!

So I often stop at DD with the Mrs to get an iced coffee. I frequently ask for and get a SUGAR FREE shot of hazelnut and add my own sweetener. I always taste it before adding sweetener as some of the staff is, shall we say, less than interested in being accurate. In fact, DD just renamed and labeled the flavors! Swirls are sweet, shots are sugar free. Fantastic! Ordered my shot of coconut in an iced coffee and added my two sweeteners, you know where this is going, enjoyed my drink and just checked my sugar. 200!!! I'm so friggin annoyed at myself for trusting the servers and then absolutely annoyed with DD for being so blase about how they prepare a drink for customers. So now I am 200 which I haven't seen since the week I was diagnosed, 10 units later and a 20 minute rest and I'm down to 154. Now starts the trickle down to get it under control. BEWARE my diabetic friends. BEWARE. MAD MAD MAD at myself for being so trusting. GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

currently over sweetened, Scott

Don't be mad at yourself...be mad at the servers who can't be bothered to give good service and get orders right! Can you make a complaint? Stuff like this makes me anxious about going out, the lack of control over your food.

That is exactly why I order water (or wine) on the rare occasion I do go out to eat. You can never be sure your drink is SF unless you open the can/bottle yourself.

I actually emailed McDonalds when they gave me sugar in my coffee at the drive thru. They replied and apologized and I really hope the staff did get a refresher. I'm sure it works the other way too, some people are allergic to artificial sweetener.

I'm sorry to say that fast food restaurants are now forbidden territory when I'm out and about for the reasons outlined. Whether it's down to a careless server, sloppy stock management or honest misunderstanding I don't feel they can meet my needs.

So either, I go out with an emergency food reserve and settle for a black coffee, find somewhere 'safe' or go hungry.

Yes, it's not that convenient but neither is getting my control screwed up!

Given that so many of the staff at fast-food places are teenages, they just don't think. The turnover is high at these places, also, so any training quickly goes out the door. It's a lost cause.

...and I thought all the "don't give a rat's behind" young people of today came to work at a paper mill.

I posted it happening to me at Peet's about 4 months ago, it was terrible. I called the manager who, it turns out, has a Type I daughter and was very upset. I didnt care about the gift card or free coffee- I wanted them to be more careful. Someone with a more serious situation than I could end up in a very sad state.

Sorry it happened to you- it is infuriating!
