81 (4.5). I thought I'd have a medical-adventure-free day today, but I'm up before the crack of dawn to accompany my daughter on her medical adventure! As to my own, biopsies on almost no sleep (yesterday) are no fun. At least it's over. Now the wait (through the weekend when pathologists don't work) begins!

A 62 (3.4) this morning. Retested after getting a little more awake, maybe 15-20 minutes later, and got a 71 (3.9)

45 this morning, and down to 40 after breakfast and insulin. Never a dull moment with diabetes! Fruit (a delicious fresh orange)will bring me right up...
MaJoie, I love the picture of your duck with chicks. What will happen when she wants them to follow her in the water?
I'm going to help this afternoon in a class of pretty crazy first graders. It will be fun and challenging.
The irrigation has started, and our pond is filling! The little mosquito fish are rushing to the stream of fresh water. My guess is it is full of oxygen, a delight for the poor critters who have been stuck in a diminishing puddle of very still water. I am so happy for them, and for all the inhabitants who suddenly have lots of room to "stretch". The next lucky recipient of the water is the thirsty garden. I've pretty much cleared all the ditches, so it should circulate well.
Happy Friday, the gateway to this April weekend.

97 (5.4) this morning. Cooler this morning at 34° and wind has been strong all day yesterday and last night. We had constant winds of 35-40MPH all day yesterday and it was supposed to end at 5:00AM today but has been extended to 11:00AM today. In a couple of nearby passes there were gusts of 81MPH and 76MPH recorded. I'm off shortly to Laughlin, NV for the weekend and it looks like I will be dealing with strong headwinds and possible blowing dust, UGH ! Well, it will be nice and warmer, 85-90° which I like.
@MaJoie, that is a real trip. Like Kathryn I wonder what it will be like when they grow up. I don't think they will be good swimmers.

144! No idea where that came from.
I talked to my friend who spends a lot more time at the barn than I do. She said some of the chicks followed their mother's lead to roost on the paddock fence several days sooner than the others. The duck's eggs were destroyed but she apparently adopted the chicks that couldn't get up on the fence. However they all caught on and last night they were all lined up together: Rooster, hen, row of chicks and the duck. Too funny. So we have a multi species family for now. "Aunt Duck?"

@MaJoie, too cute about the little "family".

There are 11 chicks. Some were faced forward on the fence and some back in no particular order. Quite a group. I wonder how long Ms. Muscovy will stay with them. She really does seem to have bonded.

44 this morning, and we're getting ready to go to the mountains for the day.
I have lost two hens in the last three days. No signs of sickness, but obviously something is wrong. I'm going to call Ag Extension for advice...
The chicks are fine. MaJoie, I love your description of the little family sitting on the fence. I hope they live happily ever after! (I can see it as the start of a charming children's book.)
Happy Saturday to you.
