99 this am, and it's cool and overcast: a good day to work!
It's awfully dry here, in spite of the coolness and clouds these last few days. Digging is more work, and irrigating more critical, especially for the little seedlings. The onions are looking like soon they'll need to be pulled, and some never did bulb up. I've never had that problem before, and I don't really know what happened. I used sets instead of transplants last fall, and maybe that had something to do with it. I won't do it again. I love those sweet, sweet huge California Reds I usually grow.
I'm loving the lizards in the garden. They follow me with their eyes as I work, cocking their little heads to see.
Happy Monday, may the week start well for you!

98 (5.43) this morning again. Bright and sunny and the wind has stopped but it is certainly cooler. We had a low of 32° this morning, haven't seen it that low for a while.

121. Better than the last 2 days. The only change was that I used a slightly longer needle. Hmm..

71 outside today with thunderstorms this afternoon.

102, 104, 116 my last 3 days. I do know where the 116 came from. The night before we ate out. By mistake they brought me a delicious perfectly baked potato with lots of butter and sour cream with my steak. I ate half of it thinking it may not have the effect it did as I'd fasted since dinner the day before.

I learned that eating 17 grams of digestible carbs in one food item like half of the potato will have a much greater effect on FBG the next day opposed to spreading out the same carb load over a whole meal with several different foods.

Fasting for 24 hours and eating VLC for a long time also makes you more insulin resistant (good) and your insulin levels very low (also good). The moderate carb load, results in sugar (toxic) not entering your cells but staying in your blood for quicker elimination (good too).

BigNick, the problem is that the restaurants use those large bakers. Even cut in half, it is usually still more than a 3 oz serving of baked potato. They sure are good though. Baked potato is the only way I can still eat potatoes without too much BG problem (usually).
