I talked with my Health Coach today (Red Brick - their services are offered compliments of the company I work for). IT finally dawned on her who I was, we've talked twice before. She remembered when we got to the part of talking about my goal of reducing my carbs from 30 to 20. She slipped and asked if I meant per meal and then we had to go through the "did I eat more protein"/"no I eat more fat" spiel again. Then it hit her. She hasn't changed her stance and neither have I. Can you believe I eat none of their recommended heart healthy foods,, other than veggies. She's never heard of Volek, Phinney, Attia, etc. I told her to make one more appointment for me and I'd have her a list of authors and real studies she could broaden her education with.

Anyway I was searching for LCHF dietitians, and on Steve Cooksey's site, he referenced a blog and I found it interesting and thought I would share.

Anybody got some good sites I can can turn my diabetes educator onto?

This book is still 99 cents on Kindle but I don't know how much longer it will be 99 cents: Principa Ketogenica:Low Carbohydrate And Ketogenic Diets - Compendium Of Science Literature On The Benefits by A. Simmonds.

Here's the description:
Quote:
With hundreds of research papers and scholarly journal articles from over the past century summarised and fully referenced, addressing 15 major health and fitness topics covering over 100 general subjects, this is the most comprehensive scientific coverage of the myriad health outcomes of ketosis, increasing fat intake, and carbohydrate restriction in general.
But don't expect science to convince your health coach--she would have to admit she is wrong and the company line is wrong. Ain't gonna happen.

One more thing about Principa Ketogenica--the kindle version has clickable links to the studies cited online. So you can either give her the websites or print the actual studies for her.

Not that it may do any good, but still worth the look on her face ;o)

First: Thanks for some new sites, folks! My collection is much happier now. Also, the Principia now resides on my machines (many thanks, Janknitz)! It's still $0.99 for the Kindle version, as I type.

Second (and most important): Mark ... You may be able to convince your Health Coach. But -- it sounds like she's required by her employer to spout ADA nonsense, in which case she may never be able to acknowledge it.

If you do get through, the best you'll likely get is a ritual reading from the Low-Fat Scripture on every visit, but it will no longer be followed by actual nagging.

Various institutions are The Problem (..duh...), and they know what they're doing -- though they hope we won't catch on. For now, it seems all we can do is plant little seeds here and there. Some are bound to sprout. Hopefully your Health Coach's office will bring forth a harvest!

Gonna comb through these after sunrise. Many thanks! I have a fairly good collection, and a number of the above are here already ... but there's always room for more.

Mark, thanks for opening this discussion.

You may not be able to get through to your Health Coach, but you sure elicited a great and informative heap 'o information for us!

Many thanks for the links, some I have seen, some I have not, so I got reading to do. Not sure yet how to get the list to her because she doesn't have an email address at RedBrick for outside contact, she says. I think other diabetes educators/nutritionists sites she would be more likely to go to and look at. Maybe she'll give me a personal email address or cell phone number I can send the links to. I feel like Janknitz, she is just humoring me because she is totally closed minded or knows full well she cannot stray from the party lines. All calls are recorded, so I know she has to be careful with what she says, even if agreeing. I don't think she will admit to being wrong in her knowledge.
