Default How y'all doing?

I am saying hello to people I do not know. Shanny, save your applause

Not been active in forums the last few years, and I probably won't be going forward. Convince me otherwise We seem to accumulate a higher level of knowledge and then we move on. Yet my old friends are calling me. Shanny. Linda. Duck. and many more, most not from little DF but from Big DF or DD or even the others. Maybe it's because my eyes are failing: I have a macular hole that will eventually need treatment -- surgery or experimental injections. This is my 40th year of T1D and 21st year if proliferative retinopathy. I had a major hemorrhage in 2006 and underwent a vitrectomy in that October. A few minor bleeds in the following years but nothing since 2008. Nothing since the OCT scan my new optho gave me.

Anyway, if you don't know me, my name is John and I've inhabited various forums. You're all my friends, even if we don't get along. I bow to certain folk: Spike has saved my life. Others have sent me letters and given me overnight beds. I live in Canada, so that is not so easy to do, especially now that I am ditching my American citizenship. Don't ask. Trust me when I say diabetes knows no borders.

Five years ago as my youngest flew the nest, I decided I'd fulfill my livelong dream of being a novelist. My Jaysus it's a tough road, but I'm getting there. I have two novels in the works. I have written five in five years, but two stand out for me. One is a Canadian travel novel, rather epic and darling. I would love to publish it in 2017 which is Canada's 150th birthday.

I consider myself an expert in diabetes. Not because I'm special; though I am, but because I see patterns others cannot. I can see cause and effect, ripple effects, truth and consequences. I cannot often see the simple answers, but I can see all the branches in the trees, the birds flittering between the, and all the bugs living on them. If you want o know something, and can probably give you decent guidance and relevant warnings. I do not advise, just to save my sorry arse.

Anyway, believe it or not I am not chatty. Don't expect hello responses or touchy-feely posts. I stick to fact. My diabetes does.
