Default FBG 105 for 93 YO

My 93 YO mother showed me her latest blood test yesterday. I thought it was terrific. Her PCP circled a couple of items and said "we should keep an eye on these". One was her A1c which was 6.0 and her FBG was 105. She has never had a problem with high glucose levels and I don't see her having it in the future.

The other item was total Cholesterol which was 210, and her HDL was 73! I could only wish my tests were that good. Mom weighs 85 lbs and was diagnosed last week with an overactive thyroid. Still very healthy, still drives, cooks, shops, keeps house and takes care of dad who reads most of the day and is healthy as well except for arthritis affecting his mobility.

Wondering if some Docs get it?

skb and Seagal like this.

That sounds amazing. Obviously that doctor was going by generic guidelines for healthy adults of any age. My mother's doctor wasn't too concerned with getting her A1c below 6.5... she gave her some leeway to have slightly higher A1c at the age of 85. (Somewhere my mother quoted me a rule that for the elderly, 1/10 their age is a reasonable A1c? Not sure where she heard that!)

Interesting that your mother has overactive thyroid, is so thin, and has such good numbers. Overactive thyroid definitely causes a person to burn more calories - I wonder if that helps her blood sugar stay low?
