Default Been a while!!

Hi all! Haven't been on in a long time. With my 18 year old niece in the ER today and finding out she is T1, I thought of everyone!

A lot has happened since my last log in- met a great guy. Getting married in May. I'm marrying a personal trainer!!!

My dad is recovering well from his stroke, he plans to walk me down the aisle.

Am I still LCHF? Absolutely. My A1c has been steady at 5.5. Still down 80 lbs. never went back to sugar, but my carb consumption has been up and I'm working on getting back to stopping that.

Hope all are well. Plan to poke around and see how everyone is!

I'm on my third Fitbit!!!

Shanny! Wallly! GrammaB! It's like the coming home party! Not as familiar with T1, but I will share this with the group since you all will appreciate this perfect example of how diabetes is not understood: she went to urgent care yesterday morning and they released her with +>300 BG and told my brother she was pre. PRE with a BG of over 300?!!! She still felt cruddy this am and went to the ER and is now getting insulin.

What are the big things I should know about T1? I asked for the c-peptide and GAD tests to be done before she got the official diagnosis. I'll follow up with my brother tomorrow. She is scared of this huge change in her life and the prospect of a pump. Hope to find out more. SHe heads back to college on Sunday.

The future husband is a gem. Met him last year when I walked into the restaurant that he managed and he said "That's the woman I'm going to marry". He sent over tons of food and he thought it was a hoot that I wouldn't eat the carbs. I explained I was diabetic and he said he fell for me then because he saw I was not ashamed. The confidence I got through this website probably landed me my husband! He is coming to my next endo appointment- the dreaded Dr Z. He said he "wanted to have a talk with him". Todd found out he yelled at me and pushed diet pills on me.

I'll be around! Good to be back!

Mollie - you've started the ball rolling with the antibody tests to verify. My understanding is that whilst the underlying cause of the blood sugar problem is different - autoimmune causing deficiency rather than resistance meaning insulin is necessary from early on, the same dietary regime works just as well for both.

One book you might consider investing in is Dr Richard Bernstein's Diabetes Solution. I certainly found it helpful even for my type 2 issues and as a guide to managing type 1, I think it's almost "required reading". I suggest exploring the online bit and see what you think.

And - back Where have you been? - and congratulations on the forthcoming wedding.

What a great way to meet a life' companion! You already know he is generous and flexible. A combination to be cherished.

It is so good to 'see' you again. I have held your family and your father in my heart. So much stress. But I never doubted that you were sticking to LCHF!

Welcome back!!! I've let a few carbs creep back in as well, sadly, and am feeling worse for it!

Thank you so much for the congrats and the recommendation! I'll send one to her and order one for myself, John. I am already biting my tongue with the advice they are giving her (juice is ok, skim milk is fine, the usual we hear.)
