Default This Website Pop Ups are Killing Me

Have anyone else noticed that something has changed on this website? Suddenly, a couple of weeks ago (I think) I started have tons of trouble navigating this website. My computer would lock up, dump me out of things I was reading or typing. It is getting really frustrating. Most of the time when I 'lock up' after some time, I get dumped down to the bottom of the forum, where the advertising pop up appears....?!

I do not have this problem on other forums and I have not changed any settings on my PC. I know you all have to advertise to stay viable, but when the ads become intrusive....it is bad for the forum users as well as the advertisers.....I learn to hate each and everyone of them for the disruption.

What changed and can it be stopped?

I was having trouble off and on but I think it is more of an issue with too much stuff open, multiple websites, large caches, etc. I did notice though that the forum was my biggest memory user before I cleaned up the Mac a little. I'll have to go back and check again to see what it is using. I was getting a spinning beach ball ( I guess Mac's equivalent of PC's hourglass) coming up and just hanging up and no doing anything. Dumping my caches, browsing history, and running only a couple of websites open at the same time seemed to help.

I just checked and the forum is my largest usage of memory right now. I will have to check on other websites, this may be normal because I have never checked. I may have to upgrade my memory if I can, I have 4.00 GB and am using 3.29 total.

It's always been this way for me and it is disruptive. I'd like to know why as well. So hard to navigate through all the pop-ups.

I'm just taking a wild guess here because I am far from being an IT type. Could it be your display resolution? I see the threads on the left side of my monitor with about 20% of the right side having forum navigation links and some ads. Also an ad at the bottom of the page, but nothing in or between posts, interfering reading the thread.

I'm not having any problems like you describe.

A few months ago I WAS having lots of navigation problems. Since I switched from Internet Explorer to Opera there's been no problems.

I noticed then that this forum and another one, and a very large art site, gave me the most navigational difficulties. Cursor jerking around all over the place, long delays in navigation. No popup ads, though.

I am using Safari browser, will try to get on BH's windows puter later to see if it looks different on Chrome or IE. Right now I need to go find a new rear tire for my tractor.

I rarely have any problems with things like this. Other than being fairly anal about keeping my computer clean of any unnecessary bloat...let me suggest 3 utilities that will help you and suggest that you run a scan for any embedded malware first.

The first one is CCleaner. This cleans your computer of files, cookies you don't want to keep and cache that builds up on a daily basis. I run it every day just before I shut my computer down.

Next is Defraggler...if you'd rather not run Windows Defrag. I also run this just after I run CCleaner. This keeps your files contiguous so that your hard drive doesn't have to run all over the drive trying to piece files together to load.

Last is Adblock Plus, a browser add-on. If you never read a website's adds...then they should have no qualms with you using this. If they do...you can click on the little icon in the corner and choose to "Disable on xxxxxxx.com".

I don't know, I don't seem to be having any problem with pop ups or other issues. I'm using Windows 10 and IE 11. I built this computer and it is fairly fast with 16GB of RAM if that makes any difference. Wish I had an answer though, I know how frustrating it can be. Hope you are able to find a solution.

Am I allowed to admit that I use an adblocker? _side eye_ I agree the site is very hard to use without one, even with up-to-date browsers.
