I am owned (more or less) by 5 cats. Cleo-Claudine was a pregnant stray and they had nobody at Humane Society to take in a pregnant cat, so we kept her. She and 1 kitten had a skin condition that the vet thought was mange, so we kept her and all the kittens because in those days, they still often put them down. Turned out not to be mange but a weird allergy thing. The 4 surviving kittens were 11 years old as of last week and CC is about 12. My cats generally live to 18-19 years old, so we still have some years of cats. Once they pass on, I'll be switching to fostering only. Yeah, I know you think I will cave, but I won't be able to afford the vet bills in another 10 years.

I'd be fostering - dogs - if I were able. A great way to have a dog without the long-term commitment. My last two have been gone for a few years now and I miss having a dog around.

After all my anxieties about Toby and his tendency to stay out for hours (as posted earlier in this thread)... he has settled a lot, and has a very strict routine which now involves him being indoors most of the time, and out twice a day for ablutions and checks of his territory. He likes to lay in wait for our bird friends, dont know why he bothers, they know he's there and tease him mercilessly except at this time of year (breeding season) when instead, they monster him. Its hilarious to watch him ducking and weaving under the wings of an angry bird parent.

Here he is, lurking.

My husband is a feral cat colony caregiver and he refers to himself as a feral cat colonist. Yes, there are a lot of cats around here. I finally found a rescue place that helped get 17 cats fixed. It has since settled down here a lot. No more seeing kittens die from extreme cold or heat.

We had four dogs at one point, but now we have one. The lone survivor is a chihuahua we call Taco.

Of all the cats, one is mine. He belonged to a neighbor of my husbands daughter who was being evicted. My grandson was there when I took the cat in and I asked him to name it. The cat's name is Hero and he's buff color with "toasted" highlights on his ears, top of his head, and his tail, with bright blue eyes. He's a mama's boy and loves to talk. I will post a photo of him at a later time.

I've got a dog and a cat that I inherited from my son. He used to volunteer for a kill shelter and we ended up with a lot of animals that were on "death row". He took two cats with him when he moved out.
The dog, Pugnax, is part Schnauzer. The other half appears to be Lab. She's crazy! The cat, Monchichi, is huge and she adores my husband. She's been on diet food forever, but still weighs more than 20 lbs.

I'm trying to picture a schnauzer lab mix. Would love to see a picture.

My son has two schnauzers and their personalities are polls apart. One is barky and nervous, the other is quiet and laid back.

I just made an album of my pets. The pictures came out sideways, but I couldn't figure out how to rotate them. I hope nobody gets a crick in their neck looking at them.
