Who is your furry friend.

Do you have a furry pet(s)? I'd love to see pictures and read stories about your pets. I'm a dog person, but I think cats are cool - as well as ferrets and guinea pigs.

We had two dogs. The larger one was very friendly and loved to lick. The little one not so friendly (not mean, just not happy to have Skippy near him.) I caught one of Skippy's licks on camera. One of my favorite photos.

Looking cute for the camera:

They lived to ripe old ages (16 and 17 yrs). Gave us a lot of joy and love over the years.

Skippy, the larger of the two, was scared of his own shadow. We rescued him in the Fall from a pound when he was 6-months old. He would try to run away from leaves blown across the road when we walked. He got better over the years, though. The other one, PD, was also a rescued dog - we adopted him when he was 1-1/2 years. He was a very easy dog, low maintenance - not like Skippy who had to be paid attention to constantly. PD was supposed to be a companion dog for Skippy, but it turned out PD didn't much like him. But his being there did help timid Skippy.

I'm also a dog person, but circumstances (lots of travel) kept me from having one. When I lived in Manhattan, I did end up with a cat. A friend's cat had a litter and I agreed to keep her until a home could be found. Yeah, right. Should've known how that would turn out.

She lived to 18 yrs and I brought her to CA when I moved. Since she had always been an indoor cat, she didn't exactly adapt to life outside of my cottage on a creek. Way too wild for her ;) She once got stuck between two rails trying to get back home - guess going around the fence, or over it, was something a NYC apt feline couldn't figure out.

Although I realize this is controversial, in populated areas I'm not one for letting cats roam and turn other people's flower/veggie patches into a personal toilet. That means a litter box and I was tired of them. Tried to train Maude to use the toilet, and got 80% of the way there, but that's still not 100% :)

Now I just enjoy the pets of friends.

We are animal people from the get go. Have currently 1 German Shepherd dog, (Kai, 4 years old) and 10 Chickens (various ages) I miss having a cat though. :)
Can't figure out how to post pics though :)

I opened a Photobucket account and put photos there that I want to insert in forum posts. Easy to copy from PB and paste in the post.

Do feathered pets count?

They sure do! Brings back wonderful childhood memories.

When I was a kid my parents regularly indulged me with a parakeets, one at a time, each with the obligatory name of Trixi. My only explanation is that I had trouble with loss, and insisting each look exactly alike and carry the same name meant a sequential bleed from one to the other that was nearly seamless.

Each Trixi had a way of escaping, with my unintended help. Out the door, out the window - and one had a tragic (and for me traumatic) end by flying into the fireplace while the later was being used for what it was intended.

I sobbed for days - consoled only by the next Trixi.

My aunt had a pet hen. At the time I thought it was rather silly, but have since learned that they make very nice pets.
